It is nice to see an article by someone who knows earth science and the truth about “climate change” and also has a sense of humor.
Ian Rutherford Plimer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne , professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide , and the director of multiple mineral exploration and mining companies. He has published 130 scientific papers, six books and edited the Encyclopedia of Geology.

Where Does the Greenhouse Gas Really Come From?
Professor Ian Plimer has published this good summary. Comments?
PLIMER: "Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland . Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet - all of you.
Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.
I know....it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50p light bulbs with £5 light bulbs ..... Well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes, FOUR DAYS - by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time - EVERY DAY.
I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.
Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year - think about it!!!!
Of course, I shouldn't spoil this 'touchy-feely tree-hugging' moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.
And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.
Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus 'human-caused' climate-change scenario.
Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention 'Global Warming' anymore, but just 'Climate Change' - you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past few years and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.
And, just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme - that whopping new tax - imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.
But, hey, relax......give the world a hug and have a nice day!"

Won't cause any argument with me...been telling folks to not believe every word they hear coming from "the highly learned...but $$ seeking" exploitists getting the news coverage. It's a high dollar income for some folks...the blindly following masses are just Lemmings who would follow any one that expounds a "Green Theory and it's all man's fault".

Well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days. Read more: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/66200/#ixzz34p90tzy1Well, there are a couple of things he screwed up on. The number of plastic grocery bags floating and flying around the planet has to be close to infinity. There is a new rock in Hawaii that is made up of lava and plastic. I wonder if it can be cabbed? Seven (7) states here in the good ol US of A have a severe drought problem and some large cities are this (!!) close to being unable to supply enough water so the people can water their huge lawns and flush away their s__t. Starvation of a lot of people that think there is an endless supply of water is just around the corner. Oh wait, it is happening now and getting worse. We are the second fattest country in the world and he thinks everyone should quit riding bicycles. Looks to me like more would be better. Some of the non-green cleaning supplies are almost impossible to get out of the drinking water but hey, what the hell, as long as we can get the s__t and P__s out of it what is the problem? What is he going to bitch about next? Recycling? We have an infinite supply of everything and the land mass to dump it all so why bother. Be really careful about what you wish for. If my attitude makes me a tree hugging greenie weenie then I guess I would have to call the other side, what? I think you can figure that out without me saying it. Jim

Jim, us folks who have not fallen for the green wave of propaganda do not want to kill the planet. Far from it, we live here too. The main difference is that the non believers think that before we all jump away from fossil fuels. There needs to be a clean, proven and reliable alternative. Not something that has to be subsidized to compete. Every energy industry should fall under the same rules and regs. One should not be able to kill endangered birds and get a free non publicized ride. While the other has 50 ducks fly into a tailing pond and its a world wide protest. And a dish soap commercial. As for the plastic bag problem. What the hell was wrong with paper bags? Oh right, save the trees bullshit. Hello!!! they grow back!!!!!! And paper recycles its self. Can't get any greener than that can we!!!!! But hey trees have feelings to right? You gullible folks out there. Keep donating to Tides,Gore and all the other scams out there. Remember Big Al needs more jet fuel and a another mansion. Trust me he appreciates your cash and promises that it will go into his fat bank account fight for the planet. On another note, I got the best fathers day gift ever. I don't let my kids buy me anything. They have to make my gift. She takes a lot of crap in school for her views and over this. This will be proudly hung on my office wall.

Just got a note from a buddy back in Kern county Commiefornia showing one of his growers pulling out all his citrus trees because he can no longer water them. These trees of course provided "food" for "people". On the exact same day the farm folks noticed the nearby city of Bakersfield using rainbirds to pour massive quantities of water on the friggin iceplant along the freeway which of course, provides nothing of importance to anyone.
I'm a people first kind of guy and think the main problem with this country is lack of proper priorities. I recycle, I conserve water etc. and I don't have kids, as overpopulation is the real problem on this planet. However, I do not buy into all this carbon dioxide garbage that only a few civilized countries are willing to screw over their population to enforce. I'm gonna drive my car, though I don't travel much these day and it ain't gonna be no fuggin Pre-asss, I'm gonna run my AC and the only thing that bothers me when my horse makes a cloud of methane is the smell, if I'm on the wrong end. All those trivial anti CO2 things the government want to tax us for etc are just the government wanting to control and tax us more and divert good money to crooked green energy companies and using it for an excuse. They are fully aware of natural sources and that what we humans in one country do don't mean squat.
Jim made some good points about things we can do ( though I'd challenge him to ride a bike to town from where I live or even ride around my neighborhood. Seniors, heat, hills and bikes don't go real well together. But the one thing the hard core "greenies " don't get is priorities. They will steal water from farmers producing food for people to protect a smelt no one gives a rat's fart about. They will deny a farmer the right to plow his own land to preserve a small population of a kangaroo rat. Yeah, it's a cute rat but WTF, it's still a fuggin rat. If it comes down to food for folks, sorry greenie aholes, I side with the folks against the rats or the smeltsies. And, I'll always side with the folks when it comes to fake ass CO2 reduction rules that the rich politicians who pass them have no intention of inconveniencing themselves over. The carbon footprint of a Gore or an Obama as compared to what us regular folks generate is like comparing a volcano to a woodstove.....Mel

hahaha Mel, they make stationary bikes. I was referring to obesity and eating enough food for 10 people.
I said he got a couple of things wrong because they have nothing to do with CO2. Plastic bags everywhere and water nowhere. Paper bags worked fine for me but I now save my plastic grocery bags and take them to the habitat for humanities store.
We all need to do the little things. The first step in making a million dollars is the first one dollar. The first step in recycling is that first piece you save. The first step in rock hounding is buying a four wheel drive that gets 12 miles to the gallon so you can search to the ends of the earth and haul them all back then use large quantities of cheap fossil fuel electricity to cut them all up into little pieces. Hook up to your house and drive 1200 miles so you can buy, sell and trade rocks with all the rest of the crazy people.
Damn I love my job. Jim

The save the planet folks have some good points...the conservationists have allowed us to have large national parks to use and enjoy. Many state parks. I believe in recycling..and do. But it's the CO2 folks and global warming thieves I have a problem with... and folks who would rather see humans go extinct...except themselves of course...then admit they know very little about the true impact of any minuscule man made effects. If it sounds like it may fit their personal agenda..it's included blindly in the bucket too. Their "Ice core" data is taken out of context...actually for over 90% plus of the time recorded in the cores taken from ALL over the world...this old ball of rocks has been well warmer then it is now. We are just coming out of a very cold spell in time....the green folks just show data from 1900 till now to educate us peons on what is going on....and make their theory plausible....and it's NOT my data....it's theirs! It's the money grubbing scientists that ride the latest media fad I have a problem with. It's the media that will sell a story at any cost I have a problem with. It's politicians who sell their pet theory to gain media attention and $$ I have a problem with. Farmers in most of Cali Imperial Valley have been supported with welfare water from govt support from since back in the 30's...with "allotments" that are like the "govt" tobacco allotments. Hard to get unless you are a corporate entity with large deep pockets or friend to those in power. I have little sympathy for Cali water problems...they have been living artificially for years. Talking about something not green! And while golf courses, resorts and cities are allowed to keep watering like there's nothing wrong...and plain citizens and farmers are rationed severely I have little respect for the voters in that state. This little ball of water and rocks is all we have...we do need to take care of it..But we need to actually SEE some priorities taken care of first.

Didn't they pass some law against being a global warming naysayer in Australia? Seriously? Or, was that England? I forget. But, any scientist willing to go out on a limb for the truth is ok by me. (even if this does sound like a chain mail hoax to me)
I'm guessing a lot of you are as old or older than I am. I remember when trash was a REAL problem. When I was a kid, litter was a terrible. When I was a little older, I was happy for all the bottles I could pick up to buy a cold soda for me and my friends. I remember the first earth Day and the commitment we seemed to make as a nation to stop pollution and litter problems. I remember once when visiting my mom's hometown, she pointed to a well known river and said that at one time, it was the most polluted in the country- but not so then. My point is, we are not animals and most of us not only DO care about the environment, but have done something about it. Rome wasn't built in a day, the sky isn't falling and this huge rush to cure carbon emissions is a joke. We just need to keep sensibly doing what we have been doing and stop with the craziness.

What’s the big deal about water? All you need’s a pipe from the sewer plant to the water treatment plant.

We have nothing to worry about. A smart person said last week in his speech from a famous lawn in your country. With a helicopter in the back ground. "That the world was never safer". So sit back and relax everyone. We have environmentalists and progressives running our counties. What could go wrong?

As long as a person knows how to make a solar still out of a black garbage bag, a few rocks and a catch container, nobody need go without water.

Yesterday we had here the lowest temp ever recorded in June since 50 years! (max temp 15 degs C)
Cheers to the global warming fans. They probably won't admit they're wrong until they'd grab the ice cubes not from the fridge, but from the glacier in the backyard. And even then, their first feeling would probably be happiness because they finally can unplug the fridge and thus reduce their carbon imprint.

High of 59° F, eh?
Wanna trade that cool morning for last month’s floods next door?

High of 59° F, eh? Wanna trade that cool morning for last month’s floods next door? This was not the cool morning temp, it was in fact the top temp of the day (noon). We here are protected by floods only because it's a flat FLAT plain. But we also had lots of floods in other areas these days. So thanks for the offer, but nope.

My apple trees bloomed before the Bee's and other insects showed up. Tons of blooms but I don't think I will have to many apples this year. The only thing really growing in my garden are my potatoes.

Fantastic thread! While I think we should all make some effort to decrease our impacts, the options we have (on a person by person or even household basis) are there to make us feel better more than solve any "problems" I'm going to use recycling as an example since it seems majority of posters do it contrary to their disbelief in climate change. Recycling actually produces more carbon emissions than making things from raw materials, the green argument is so fundamentally flawed and contradictory it's border line a bad joke. If you'd like an entertaining visual on the flaws recycling has to offer check out Recycling is BULLSH!T: Don't take it at face value, look into some of the things they talk about.
Now granted I recycle... pretty much anything that can go in my bin, does....but not because I fear global warming. As much as people recycle and cut back on emissions and whatever green measures we take. It's going to be all for nothing eventually. I'm thinking massive asteroid and cutting funding to nasa to be ultimate annihiltor, with war, pollution, disease and famine bringing down our numbers so dramatically that the asteroid will just finish the job.... call me a nihilist if you want (wouldnt be a first when i pull the asreiod card) but I think the term is more appropriate as realist.
The world around us is ever changing. We can survive as a species in some of the most inhospitable places on earth, and suffer thru and make it out of extreme situations, we just need to take measures to ensure we have healthy food and clean drinking water ... and we're already screwing that one up. 2 biggest examples are gmo and fracking. More than happy to elaborate on these issues with anyone but stopping now to prevent going more off topic than I already have.

transcendental....Please tell us what you know about the dangers of fracking. Then I will inform you on the benefits and the reduction of carbon that fracking has already helped to lower.
