www.riogrande.com/Product/bonny-doon-classic-20-ton-electric-press/110505Heres the cheapest Bonny doon press at rio grande that has electric power...only 3 grand and no dies come with it. I think I am going to get one of them thare wood splitting machines and make a press. I have a super nice porta power somewhere if I can remember where it is buried. The tip of my index finger quit working and keeps bending backwards when I work or put my hand in my pocket for something and then hurts like the dickens. I asked the Dr. to cut it off and they won't do it. Been thinking of a guilitine to do it my self...Maybe if I just changed my tire?

Dang James,I just got in from out of town.Know that's gonna be painful.Take care. snuffy I think the fingers are going to be OK snuffy. Just angry that I was careless enough to put my hand in a situation like that. When the nurse asks you what happened and turns pale when you describe the accident you know it had to hurt LOL. Hope the fingers aren't hurting too bad today. I recall the time I sliced the web between my index and middle finger all the way back to the knuckles. Dr. wanted me to lay down while he stitched it up so I wouldn't pass out and fall off the table. I couldn't rotate my hand enough for him to access it very well lying down, so I offered to set up and even held my fingers apart with my other hand. The Nurse and Dr. couldn't believe I could set there watching, and even help while I got sewed back together Some of us "Seasoned" old farts could show the young'uns these days a thing or three, eh?

James, you are looking for something to pound your steel dies into metal? Google "treadle hammer." It is electric, and already turned vertically. Blacksmiths use them. Would love to have a treadle hammer Jean. A small one for jewelry. And the above slow hydraulic press too. Seems you guys have a treadle hammer ? Um, no. mrrockpicker bought a 2 ton sheet metal stamping press, that he thought he could use as a treadle hammer. Not so. It is a slow tapper, not a bap-bap-bap-bap-bap quickly type of hammer. Could be used to make very controlled hits on small pieces of metal. Hey, sorta like for making jewelry! It was an ad on Craigslist several years ago - Here is a video on You Tube (not mine!) showing how it works We also have a couple smaller presses that sit on workbenches for pushing encouraging small bearings and such. And for the big jobs, there's always the four foot wide, 10 ton Chicago Press brake. Will have to either hunt up or take photos of those, if you want. I may have already done so? Went to the swap meet today, got some fine things! Uploaded photos to Flickr (why, why, why??), now it will not give me codes for them. Will try later. James, how are your fingers doing today? Please take good care of them. You need them and they are the only ones you are going to get!

Love that little hammer rockpickerforever. 1/3 HP and looks super reliable. For some reason it makes me want to hide my fingers; it does not look forgiving. So did you guys buy a similar to blue machine on youtube ? Fingers doing great. Worked outside most of the day and had no problems. Had to remove that giant wrap they put on it. The pinky may not make it.

James if you want a press, buy the real deal. Your not splitting wood. The pressure that the ram puts on your work material also applies to the structure holding the ram. A good press is one of the handiest tools in any shop. From replacing U-joints to removing a seized pulley from a shaft. May steal the hydraulics and the motor from the splitter and weld up a press. Have tons of scrap iron. Double acting hydraulic cylinders with threaded fittings too. Electric splitters not so easy to find around here. Pump and 15 amp motor costs a fortune, add control valve. Price too good on the splitter.

Like this but on a smaller scale. Darn things are expensive. This one $2200 on Craig's list.

Greenlee/Enerpac pipe bender.
Gotta be one takin’ up space, some dead/retired contractor’s garage within your boat-haulin’ domain.
Somewhere between free an’ a few hundred bucks.

we have a unit similar to this and it originally powered a plate to direct material. We added a second cylinder to power the door for material feed which was originally manual. It would get a rock behind it and it was impossible to open. Now we move a lever and it redirects the flow from directional plate to door. Saves a lot of work. You just need a double action cylinder and a frame work. I watched the little wood splitter on you tube and for about the same price you get the hydraulic and cylinder though the cylinder is pretty small diameter. www.ebay.com/itm/Single-Acting-Hydraulic-Power-Unit-Remote-Dump-Tipper-Trailer-Power-Unit-NEW-/290960918791

I bet you walk buy a lot of stuff in your scrapyard hunts that could be pressed apart and recycled. As for the log splitter idea. A hydraulic ram is different from a hydraulic press ram. Press rams have better seals and are a lot tougher construction. Built for the high pressure that is needed to press many 1000's of lbs. A press ram is a upside down hydraulic jack.

bushmanbilly parfiveJust remembered one of the scrapyards has a whole shed full of hydraulic shop equipment. The old timer that worked in the hydraulic area passed away recently and has a bunch of presses. They are eventually going to scrap the whole mess. I have several 30' six inch H-beams and a bunch of medium weight six inch I-beams, bunch of heavy plate. Motor/pump combo, valve, tank, ram and the rest is details. Probably be able to get a whole factory unit and have the pump and ram rebuilt if needed. The old fellow used to rebuild cylinders in that shed.

But do need a 110/220 VAC motor.

Well I had completely missed this thread until just now. Someone mentioned your hand on another thread so I had to go hunting for what he was referring to. No fair hiding important stuff in the Metals section!
Quite the injury there my friend. Hope you heal well and quickly.
