Wish they put auxiliary fittings on those hand pump rams. Welding up one of those is pretty simple Dale. It can be overbuilt, got a barn it can set in and never be moved.

I'm so sorry to hear about your fingers! I can't imagine those 5 minutes waiting for someone(s) to get that car jacked back up I bet your sister in law was about loosing it too. [cringe]. I had a finger locked in a car door about 15 years ago, and I thought it took forever for the lady to come back around and unlock the door, can't even imagine. I have an old manual log splitter that has seen better days and has been since replaced. Hydraulic pump on the I beam. If you want it to build a prototype with, it's yours.

jamesp I could be wrong on this point. But I can't see why you couldn't with a spring return jack. Tie a hose to the bleed off screw. Check valve on pump side. Have T in the line with a needle valve for the bleed off returned back to the bottom of the oil tank. Tied to the bottom will keep air out of the system. I have a few hydraulic jacks but no power source to try it. If you have a jack you could hook it up to the hydraulics on your mini hoe to try my theory. If it does work the manual pump could be used as a fine tuner or hold the piece your pressing before hitting it with full power. This would work good for pressing in bearings where one needs a light touch.

Will be figuring path of least resistance.

I have an old manual log splitter that has seen better days and has been since replaced. Hydraulic pump on the I beam. If you want it to build a prototype with, it's yours. Ann, it hurt. Bad dreams thinking about it. Fingers in a closed car door is just the same, pain galore and nauseating to think about. Odd, had convinced myself that those fingers were gone in that 5 minutes. All day Saturday I was convinced my fingers were cut off. The doctor said it would not hurt if they were cut off, nerves severed due to amputation is often a low pain situation. Kind offer. Let me see what is happening at the scrap yard. thanks a bunch. If ya get a chance do a couple of photos.

Ed, that is exactly what I want-to a T. Chop it up some and convert it vertical and to sit on a bench. Electric motor, hydrualic pump, controls and ram cylinder-for $300, a deal. Would put a flow reg or adjust existing to slow speed. Could use a smaller unit. May find an electric shop press that is more suitable. I was thinking about you Ed. I know you are in the tire biz. Got back from the hospital 2AM this morn. I will be fine, but may loose the end of my pinky finger, maybe the next one too. I ran into my sister in law. Her Bmw had a flat. I started changing the rear wheel in the parking lot of CVS drug store. The jack did not raise the car quite enough. I reached into the spokes of the wheel to yank the wheel off. Unfortunately I also grabbed the disc brake rotor and pulled the wheel off the lugs but also pulled it off the jack. The rotor landed on the tip of my fingers inside the wheel along with the weight of the car. It took about 5 minutes to get a bunch of people to lift the car off my fingers. Not sure I ever felt so much pain. Got a photo, most of the damage is internal. I was certain that the sharp edged rotor cut all my finger tips off. Please be cautious. morphine feels good but will wear off. gonna be some pain in my future. Doc expects 100% recovery, 40% chance loosing pinky tip. Damn jamesp, can't leave you along for two sec. without you wreaking something. Speedy recovery (tips hat).

jamesp and the fact I never put my hands under the tire or near pinch points. It will make me think many times about the process. Thank you for the warning I could do with out the demonstration those. Get well my friend and tumble on.

Seen too many, best medicine to keep ya from doing it yourself. Your in the field where that stuff happens, pay attention. 20 shots of Lanacane and a heard scrubbing helped remind of no repeat performances.

I was thinking of you and had to return to this thread to see how you are doing. Oh man it still really hurts to look at those pictures. I hope your fingers are starting to heal and you will be back at 100 % soon.

Had a check up/stitch removal today and Doc is darn sure the pinky will not have to be removed. Chance of infection about over. Definite loss of nerves, so numbness will be the worst part. Happy happy happy, thought I lost em. Again, thanks for checking in.

Sitting there with a BMW sitting on your fingertips while a posse is gathered up to lift it up off of you takes a *real* redneck masochist macho dude!!!!! Btw, radio, your avatar might actually be of a horse impersonating a post turtle.... just a thought....
