Love the shine. I guess I need to find some Owyhee picture jasper this summer. Finding for yourself? I found mine in a flat rate box. Unfortunately, I'm a long way from the Owyhee Mountains. Or anyplace that I could find rocks like any of those. My favorite type of rock hounding. Walking to my front porch and picking up my USPS flat rate box. I'm such a world traveler.

ChicagoDave, I see the mailman up the street, I plan on doing some hounding when he gets here. Hope to be happy with what I find. If so, he'll be bringing me more of it.

This palm is incredible. Did you reduce it Randy ? I'm fairly certain that the mother rock is the one on the left. It was a little thicker than it appears here. I haven't touched the other one yet.

Someone somewhere mentioned that the palm with widely spaced tubes like the untouched one above may not be palm.

Randy, Garage Rocker #5 the jaspers are my favorite!!! Have you posted your process for tumbling somewhere? I want to read it!!!! Mel, I never posted any process because it's the same as a lot of folks on here. That's where I learned it. The course grind is where it's at. Once you hit the Lot O, it should be easy street. First, and most important, rule is...start with the best material you can. These things take a looong time, so go with something that isn't going to require a miracle to come out well. No sense in wasting time AND being disappointed. We all (those with some experience) know what works well and unfortunately it's stuff that takes a while to tumble. Even the obsidian I've done took a while because it was babied with plastic pellets in the course grind. Once the rocks are in there, let them go indefinitely. The only way to get that liquid shine is to let them go until there are no cracks or divots that hold polish. I don't do any grinding before or during the course stage, but some do. That would speed things up if you pulled a rock and ground down any imperfections. Once they are ready to move to the Lot O, just use the recipe found here:
forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/76542/lot-recipe-card?page=1
An exception to my above rule is anything self collected. It may or may not be the best material you could throw in there, but it is satisfying to pick up a rock somewhere and tumble it yourself. I leave a small barrel open for anything that requires special handling or just to play around with. Perhaps I'll use that barrel to try out one of jamesp 's new methods someday.

Someone somewhere mentioned that the palm with widely spaced tubes like the untouched one above may not be palm. What? That palm is not palm. Who are you, Yogi Berra? HA!
It may not be palm, but I like the color in that one. Some other type of vegetation then? Should get some fine tumbles out of it.

Thank You!!! Ok NOW!!! Why didn't all you guys that have Lot-O's warn a biatch that this thing needs to be bolted, strapped to, cemented on a 100lb concrete block 😂😂😂😂 That question was rhetorical 🙈

Just got around to getting pics of a couple January batches. Too many for one post, so it will have to be a two parter.

Pretty successful 5 minutes of hounding yesterday, ChicagoDave . What type of rocks are those? Lake Superior Agates? Sorry, I'm new to this. You mentioned that your results are predicated on the quality of your material. Where did these rocks come from (supplier)? I'm in awe of your work, BTW. I can only hope that I get marginally close to what you do. Thanks and regards. Dave
