Thanks for the compliment, aDave. I'm sure you'll be getting the results you want soon enough. Just be patient and persistent. (And get a Lot O when you can) Those are actually Botswana agates. Bots and Lakers can look a lot alike. Both favorites of mine. Those came from rocktumbler.com. In the past, I have bought Bots from the Rock Shed, and those were better quality I think. These were described as 'river tumbled nodules' and shouldn't take as long to shape as the rock shed rocks. These were $35 for 5 pounds and the Rock Shed has them for $60 for 5 pounds. I can see the advantages of both vendors' material. When I get in front of the computer, I'll add some comparison photos. Welcome to the forum. A lot of good people on here. Randy

Randy,
Thanks for the info. I'm a new tumbler, but I'm trying to absorb as much as I can. I'm working on the rotary side right now, and I'm still trying to hone in to what I want to produce different material. I have a couple of small tumblers, but I am considering getting something larger that I can use to transfer material down the road. Based upon what I'm seeing from folks like you, I'm sure a vibe is in order down the road in the future.
In all honesty, my head is spinning right now. I think I need to take a breath. Best regards.

Dave Many of us have traveled down this same road. If I were to start over I'd get a Model B (hi speed for me) and Lot-o in that order. Model B is more efficient than the Lortone offerings, and the Lot-o rocks a cool vibe. If I had any mechanical or engineering or how-to-use-my-brain-well skills, then I'd build an efficient tumbler and buy a double barreled Lot-o. But I got more money than brains...and I'm poor. I was originally considering a Lortone QT 66 to allow me more bulk processing on the front end, but I'll have to see what this model B is that you speak of. Thanks Colin. I know nothing when it comes to this stuff, and I can prove it. You folks have been very helpful, and I appreciate the info. ETA: OK, I just looked. 15 lb Thumlers. I thought the Lortone QT 66 might allow me some latitude if I don't have enough material to fill something like a 15 lb drum. Am I over-thinking this? I was originally thinking the Lortone with two 6 pound drums might be easier to work with. As mentioned in another thread, I apologize for the thread hijack GR. But, I do appreciate the info about the agates. Best regards. Dave

Some even have both. Each are quality tumblers and have their advantages. It's all been debated on here before. Just like the grit recharge or total clean out I saw you asking about in another thread, we all have our preference. The QT66 you were looking at is a great option, I happen to love mine. I don't have a Thumbler's to compare it to. You'll need to learn how to properly search for old threads like those in google, not the search function here. If you haven't already figured that out, it's pinned to the top of one of the sections here. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/55498/search-forum-answers

Gather no moss, Colin I have a Lortone 33b, QT66 and a Thumlers AR2. I really hate the Thumlers. The lids wear out quickly, and the barrels are much more likely to leak, even before they wear out. The Lortones never leak. I've never used the 15 pound Thumlers, and I know the lid has a different design. How do you feel about that lid design compared to the Lortone?

Nics bots. The bots I got from rockshed were probably not has good as yours. Just part of the variance when you buy online sight unseen. $7 / pound seems a decent price. I haven't really found them cheaper than that online or on ebay. I keep an eye on ebay for them since they are among my favorite materials as well.

Lids on the Lortone faster and easier to clean. I've blown out the lid once in two years in the Lortone probably too much glass. Model B lid liner lasts about 9 months which is about the same for the belt. Belt on Lortone lasts about a year. Gather no moss, Colin

Got yours yet? Yep, they are going to have to wait for their turn in the tumbler though. I have seriously considered buying more too. I probably won't and then I'll kick myself later.

Love my model B and AR2 Thumler! Have them going 24/7 without any probs yet but haven't been doing this long. I'm saving the Lot-O for pre-polish/polish stage only. I'm still taking in all the knowledge!

Got yours yet? Shoot, I forgot about this thread, but just found the button to look at threads I've participated in. Thanks for the photos of the agates. Looks like it's my turn to get over to rocktumbler.com to order. I just looked quickly, but they can still be added to a shopping cart. I'll try later when I'm doing some shopping. Hope it won't be too late. Appreciate all of the info. Regards. Dave
