Cant stand it..One of you guys get some bowling balls, another some cold beer to cool all participants and maybe the ball a little. I will bring the cutting equipment and we'll have a good time and the ball, might get lost, shot or traded for something shiny. What size equipment we need. 50 cal or will 30 work? hehehehe That ball busting sounds easier than it actually is.

She's a pro. =) Once I get a chance to process some of the bowlerite I have a bit more, I will put together some boxes for trade.

Once upon a time jamesp, posted a video of him shooting coral to break it down to tumbles. If you insist on breaking bowling balls you may need his consult.

That bowlerite is some awesome stuff. You could probably find some bowling balls on craigslist real cheap. A quick showed about 20 bowling balls near me, from 5$-20$. My local bowling alley also has them.

Spirally and not much left to tumble. A bowling ball will probably absorb a lot of shock but when it cold it might blow the outer layer off. If not it will be fun. James is awesome isn't he ? Lots of utube videos out and doing different things to them but no one has shot a cold one yet.. yet.. Grin.... Be great if it pops the outer layer of without shattering it. Doing it as much for the fun as for material. Got a really pretty gold spiraled one at Salvation Army for less than #3.00. Came with a shrapnel containing bag and some shoes too . grin.

Anyone try a sledgehammer to a bowling ball? Maybe during a deep freeze in February?

Liquid nitrogen is cheaper than milk. it makes things really cold. Just sayin'.

I would guess based on leaving your bowling ball in the trunk of your car. In Ohio ,at winter time, and all week, just being cold won't do it. But the us of water freezing maybe in the finger holes might be enough. Even drill some holes deeper and use water and let it freeze. The power of the freeze.

They are now drilling holes and filling them with swelling bentonite clay instead of dynamite for mining.

You could always just drop the bowling ball off the top of your local skyscraper. Just make sure to clear the area

You could always just drop the bowling ball off the top of your local skyscraper. Just make sure to clear the area I spent a year (1989) working in the "tallest plywood building in the world" - the John Hancock Tower in Boston. My job, working for Joy Electric, was to tear out and replace wiring as floors were vacated and prepared for new tenants. The new glass panes were in with sensors for each one. When a pane started cracking alarms would sound, staff would rush out and barricade the streets and the glass would come raining down.
The Top floor has a huge weight that slides back and forth to keep it balanced.

I am guessing that I have about 17 coats of spraypaint on my sample now. A little more than 2 coats a day cause I can't remember to add more coats fast enough. I'm trying to layer several layers of each color so there will me better color seperation when finished. This is not building up thickness as fast as I expected, I don't even think I have 1/16 of an inch built up yet. It's starting to look a little bit lumpy.
I like the idea of using Brushed House Paints to build up thickness faster. It would be a lot more hassle to do it but would build up much faster, and latex paints dry very hard like a rock. I will continue with my spraypaint experiment but will be getting ready to make some brushed paint fordite too.

Dont forget you need to bake each layer to make it the right hardness.

well, it is just a fun experiment, but my sample is out in the Sun and gets rather hot in the afternoon. Also gets wet every morning from the dew, but dried properly before getting a new coat of paint.

Love your experiment, keep up the good work.
Making rainbow calsilica would be another interesting experiment, if you get bored of watching paint dry!

Been thinking all along that if this works at all the result would be closer to rainbow calsilica than Fordite.

Getting lumpy sounds good.
Spray paint is approximately 1mil thick. So 750 coats will get you the 3/4" you seek
