I wonder if Abrasive Armory could be convinced to carry it ? I too was curious if a tumbling supply like the armory would buy in enough quantity to get a big discount and carry it.

OK, talked to the Washington Mills salesman. I know his son. And both of them live about 100 miles away. One distributor is in Alabama which is close to me. And another is out west.
This SiC is called metallurgical grade and varies 88% to 92% pure SiC. There is a chance these 2 distributers will not sell small 3200 pound quantities. There is a chance they will, and may even sell smaller amounts.
Working on it.
Stay tuned.

Depending upon "out west" maybe I can partner with Jeff Barnhouse. Or he can run with it. rxscram

Looks like I will be dumping 2000 pounds of this stuff out on the back 40. It is OK to pile it outside. Weather does not damage it.
2000 pound super sack out of (near) Birmingham for $900 if I pick it up. Can't turn that down.

I will dump it next to one of the clay pits notjust. That way I can pre mix it with clay with a shovel 5 gallons at a time. Too me, coarse grind is just an obnoxiously dirty process with no need for concern of purity or separation of abrasive like the polish process. I am just going to treat it as if it were a bulk outdoor pile straight out in the weather. Many of the end users leave it out in the weather as it is about as inert as glass. I think I am done w/the experiments. About dialed it in. Happy with dosing, over dosing it, splitting it into sizes for time release using a screen, adding thickeners, etc. I just wanted to get a long term pile so I can tumble cheap and use lots of abrasive in heavier doses. I have spent 1 $1200 on SiC 30 and 46 in 5 years. Only about 500 pounds. Now I have 2000 pounds for life and can add heavier doses. Thanks for reporting on your company's use of it. It is such a rare commodity and has so few end users. It really warranted someone that works close to it to expose it's existence. You did just that. Your mention of it may make tumbling a whole bunch cheaper in years to come.

I'm gonna pull the trailer up and knife a hole it and let it spill onto a tarp or piece of carpet. I don't have a way to lift 2000 pounds off the trailer. The ole hour glass unload. May take all night to drain the bag lol. I bet it will be a glitter monster when the sun hits it.

ide still cover it so the fines don't wash out in the rain lol A good idea, may have little SiC drainages at the bottom of the slopes. Plan on screening out the big stuff for the really coarse time release grind say a 5 gallon bucket at a time as needed. And then on the last recharge running the finer stuff for the final course grind. Let that run a week till it is broken down to very fine particles. That is what I have been doing. Basically a 2 stage course grind. Lampus may sell a 2000 pound super sack, I am not sure. I thought they said 3000 pounds. I figure at triple dose 2000 pounds will last 5-7 years. Tumbling uses a lot of coarse grit no doubt. The metal industry uses silicon carbide to help protect the furnace linings and it apparently keeps so much slag from forming.

Plus 1 I bet Jim is on it though..I have lots of pallets of different material outside. Most in plastic and goes nad in 6-8 months. Be great except for Jim's post office workers. Course if we do our part and pay him promptly he can hired a couple baggers and loaders and he can supervise with the symbol of authority in his hand. Probably a 16 ouncer too. Now we going to need strong bags and a pig tail wire tie for closing.

Love freight industry. They smile when you say heavy, but not the post office. You can have a postal workers job instantly if they do not deliver due to weight within post office limitations. One of the most serious offenses. Post Office not too fond of light duty work(say if you are injured). Route carriers have to be 100%. Light duty is only in the warehouse or sorting department. Could have had many temps fired but there may be ramifications if you get a reputation I presume.

Not sure about the weight thing but several time they said boxes were delivered but didn't show up for days. Have one box out now that should have been here Monday, said it was delivered and a no show again.. Yep that working for a big corporation or a big governments sounds easy, lot of lazy people do it cause it sounds easy but glad I never put myself in the position to do that. You didn't either Jim,,, good for us. Side note When you drain your big shipping bag of grit.. Fill bags or buckets with it to make it easier to handle later?? Drains slowly into a bag. Too bad I wasn't closer could get you used ale malt sacks Plastic over plastic. No moisture in malted barley. Have a local brewery close ??

My good friend is a route carrier. He has a good time but he is good at it and treats his customers well. They give him all kinds of goodies tips etc. But he works hard. No concern getting SiC wet. It just a ceramic. Totally inert. Shovel out a 5 gallon bucket from the pile and tote it to the tumblers. No problem. Sometimes I scoop it out of a 5 gallon bucket and it is covered in water. It rarely gets mosquitos in it though. Must be some kind of chemical in it. Or the mosquito larvae are not wanting to get tumbled ha.
