TheRock , I think you need to get some new Michigan State shirts. I kid. My mom was a spartan, though I was always a fan of Big Blue while growing up. I let this one simmer for a bit! I use those green shirts for SHOP RAGS!

Well BO has been a pretty good PUHEE this trip and when Ole Dad makes something special I do for him too he loves his Chicken, so why not some Larry The Cable Guys Beer Can Chicken? At least the seasoning any ways. Mom & Dad are having Sweet & Sour Glazed Pork Steaks (A Down Home Southern Family Favorite) With Salad, Fancy Loaded Baked Beans, And Baked Taters, And Steamed Brussels Spouts. Rock Hunting takes a lot of ENERGY and I love to Grill / Smoke & Cook In A normal year I use 30 Tanks of Propane. Last Year Usage was down being I was Stroked Out, But I have been Grilling more this Year My Usage is Prolly up around 10 Tanks. Anyway Tomorrow I think we are headed EAST to Some places Rob Jugglerguy mentioned. Rob we will try it but I am far from being in TOP CONDITION with my Condition I use a RAKE as a Cane to help with my footing in the surf and on the Rocks I still Swerve to my STARBOARD side so you can tell I was once in the NAVY! True story...we ate dinner with Larry the Cable Guy. It was a very pleasant evening. Turns out, he was in the area to visit his daughter, and we wound up sitting next to each other in the same restaurant. Ended up having a very nice conversation with NOTHING related to his comedy act. He was very pleasant to speak with during our dinner.

I just saw this after getting home, the weather was sort of misty most of the way home. The straits were calm, so no problem crossing the bridge. If I would have seen this earlier, I would have tried to meet up with you in Munising.

You still seem a bit confused by the term “laker”. A laker is a Lake Superior agate. So to say that you found some agates and some lakers is redundant. I see a really nice laker in the bottom of the third to last picture. It’s probably nicer than anything that I’ve ever found. That’s quite an accomplishment this late in the season after so many people have been scouring the beaches all summer. I’d take that one out and keep it somewhere special. There’s also a nice piece of unakite in that same picture.

I forgot to mention that I was at the beach at Christmas today too. I was looking for some epidote to cut. I found a couple of green rocks, but nothing great.

I see says the Blind Duck. Well hopefully we can find a few more before the trip is over. As far as my rock vocabulary goes I'm gonna have to coin some other slang phrases to pin on these I guess.

Very cool! Love the details about the old furnace. I grew up listening to the song 'Rock Island Line' (both Johnny's.. Cash and Horton)that mentioned Pig Iron. Never fully grasped what pig iron was until now. Oh yeah, that's a beautiful Laker you found as well! Awesome!

I’m really enjoying these pictures, Duke. I see two Lakers for sure in your pictures, the banded red ones near the bottom. There’s a white one with brown ends that might be, but probably not.
I’m not sure where the Blind Sucker beach is. I usually stay at the campground right on the beach where the road makes a 90 degree turn away from the water. It’s called something like “Lake Superior Campground”. It’s also about ten miles east of Grand Marais. Did you stop in to say hi to Karen in the agate shop in Grand Marais?

Rob Jugglerguy we parked along side the Rd On a pull off on the Superior Side about 1/4 mile past that campground your talking about. The Damn Deer Flies Bit the Hell Outta Us! Damn things got some teeth lemme tell ya! On the second day yesterday We brought some off stuff for deer flies that worked good until ya got in the water and it washed off. The Blindsucker #1 Campground is about two miles west of the campground were you stay at. There was an Old Guy by the name of Ray that was on the beach yesterday He is a Local and lives in Grand Marias and he said he has been walking that beach for 45 years. Anyways I was chatting with him what seems like 4 ever, he had 15 Lakers and looked over at what we had as we were fixing to go and he said we had 7 of course he has the advantage of a Birds eye view. He told me that not all Agates have that Striped lines running through them. Yes before leaving town we stopped at the Museum Shop and MJ purchased 16 polished Lakers for a show she has coming up End of Sept (APPLE FESTIVAL) She etches Glass and sells it along with the jewelry she has been making. She needed something already polished and at $1.00 ea how can ya go wrong? I was looking at some of Karen's Lakers and many didnt have the Rainbow swirled lines either so I guess that confirms it. MaryJane has a pretty good eye as she goes and sells at these arts and Craft shows and has prolly seen more agates than I have ever seen.
