I recieved this stone from Frane ( fran, this one was my favorite ). Anyone have any idea what it could be? I wanted to do it in gold square wire, but I just couldn't wait so it got copper.... I'm not sure why, but I just keep short changing myself on wire... My last few wraps came out nothing like my sketches, because I keep cutting the wire too short. I have been able to make them work,so it's no big deal, but it gets a little frustrating. Well I guess there is two pluses . 1. I conserve wire, I have only cut off about 2 inches of copper 20 ga total in the 2 wraps I have done 2. I have a few sketches I can do later ;D So, I guess it's not to bad at all.... lol OH, also, A friend really wanted the butterfly wings Steve made, but she couldn't have them, so I made her a butterfly anyway, out of a small piece of amethyst... an ugly, lopsided butterfly that is.... lol Chris

I finally have a good idea of what I'm going to do, now I can't decide what to use.... The copper screams look at me, and could detract attention away from the stones ( not likely, they are just so cool ) ; whereas the silver just kind of highlights the stone , at least in my opinion.... then again, I'm going to cover as little as possible, soooooo.... I'm leaning towards the copper.... what do you think?

Thanks as always everyone!!!! now... for some responces.... Randy... Well, the package said copper ( I bought it at hobby lobby ), and it feels like copper, but I agree...It looks crazy shiny and bright, I'm thinking it may have a little nickel in it it fight corrosion ( I hope no green skin, but then again, I won't be wearing it ) Whatever it is... I like it!! creativeminded... Nope, got it from Hobby Lobby. I'm also an electrician, so there is no shortage of 14 ga and larger around here , but that is the last thing I want to play with after a day at work... lol Tweetiepy... Ha!!!I didn't even notice that.... it looks like a littke skeleton is holding it from the top, wrist and all!!! sitnwrap... the prongs are a pain to get just right, just enought to hold it firmly. And borrow all you want Lori, I don't mind at all...

I did a few wraps this weekend, and figured I'd put them all in one post this time ... so, here they are for you viewing pleasure ... This first one was for a friend, she picked the stone, dyed quartz I do believe, and I wrapped it up for her....(notice that with a few bends here and there it would look like a butterfly? I've got butterflies on the brain ;D!!! ) ...and the back.... Second.... ever since I gave my stepbrother my pet wood piece I have wanted to do another one for me, so I did, and here it is.... ... and the back.... And finally.... Check it out I bought some different wire... Copper ( Still not gold or silver... some day )!!! Boy is it soft, I was afraid I was going to beat the hell out of it with my tools, but it came out pretty well. And the design is pretty much the same as the second wrap I did, I like this look for some reason.... the stone is some river rock I tumbled.... .... and the back, which almost looks as good as the front ... Also, I have a bonus.... An electrician friend of mine started playing with some of the copper wire and made this.... lol .... looks like we have someone else hooked on wrapping , I mean really, his binding are nice and tight ;D!!!! Hope I didn't bore anyone with this long post.... and thank you as always for looking... Chris

I was mostly trying to make the bail at the top a little smaller( boy is it a pain trying to get 8 round wires to line up in 2 rows, but I got it ), and try to make my curves a little smoother.... I got a little carried away though, it came out pretty ugly , I think... what about you? Oh, by the way the stone is crystal opal.... thank you again Fran....

Julie... I always try to keep some of this around the house... just in case you can find it here.... www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=340-640, or something like it at any Home Depot or Lowes.... It will dissolve any cyanoacrylate adhesive into a soft gel, never can tell when you will need it... .... now, fiberglass epoxy resin.... once that hardens, it can be a real problem ( but it won't stick to masking tape at all, crazy huh? ) Chris

Chris, with your style in mind, I can visualize exactly how you would wrap it. But this is your baby so . Can you really..... could you tell me what you visualize? 'Cause I have come up with nothing so far .... This little butterfly isn't talking to me yet, but I'm sure it will soon .....

I recieved mine yesterday... and wow, Steve, great job!!! Smaller that I expected, I hope I can do it justice. I have the one on the top right in the pic. Thank you, Lori, for sending me this one. I had been trying to figure out how to attach the three pieces together ( without it looking like Frankenstein's Butterfly ), and when I opened it and saw just the two wings I was somewhat relieved . ....Now.... hmmmm... how can I attach these two pieces together? ....

Well, it happened ..... I finally had to toss one and start all over.... but I was determined to make it work , and after a little frustration and cussing, I came up with this..... this is the first wrap I have named, I call it " PITA ", it earned it, because it was such a " Pain In The A$$ "!!!! Also, I have to thank Frane for the beautiful stone... thank you again Fran!!!! Chris

Thank you everyone.... 150FromFundy .... I did cut myself a little.... flint knapping just blows my mind, this stuff is so brittle!!!! Tigger.... Taffy is the perfect description, if I put it in a candy dish, someone would hurt themselfs ( but I wouldn't do that ) The colors just don't look natural... sitnwrap .... I'm going to look for more, just this time off the clock, I was working the other day, so I only spent a minute.

I want a little crazy in attempting this.... pretty wild looking, it's not as big as it looks, about 1.5 ". I really like the stone and thought this was a good way to bring attention to it. and the back... I'm worried about the butterfly Lori ... I have no idea what I'm going to do with it.... but hey, that's half the fun!! Whispers... (So, can I get a peek at what you are doing??)

I pretty sure this is citrine, I have some samples to compare now and it sure looks the same... What do you think? Chris p.s. I bought a small flie set today, so from now on my ends should be a little cleaner ...

Well, I did this today, the top didn't come out how I was planning, but I think I worked ( forced ) it out OK... what do you think? Also, I have heard, and seen, that flint can have some pretty bright colors, such as Flint Ridge Flint... but all I have found in my area is black, brown, white, and some very muted mottled pieces.... until today!!! I saw this in a pile on a job site today, and couldn't belive it ..... unfortunately these are some pretty small pieces ( largest is about 3" at the widest ), I looked for more a little, but nothing...and boy is this stuff sharp!!!! Awesome Randy, you do some incredible work with stone!!!! I'm not familiar with many types of stone, but botswana agate is one I do know and one of my favorites.... great work, and thanks again for getting me into all this ( thanks to everyone else too, but honestly, without Randy's tutorial I never even would have considered it )

Tigger..... Thank you very much Sparky.... yep, it does look llike Carnelian, and it seems that Carnelian can be found all over the US so I'd say that's a good possibility. I really need to read more about id'ing stones I'll get on that... Sitnwrap.... no, I haven't done anything to the ends... yet. I was looking to by a ( some? ) file over the weekend, but there were so many types I wasn't sure what to use ( then I got distracted by other tools.... I love hardware stores ) Do you, or anyone, have any suggestions? Thanks all, Chris
