Well, here is my attempt at the pet wood.... it's held in there suprisingly well!!! I cut the wire a little short so the top is a little small....I like the effect though... chris

huffstuff ..... well, with the right tools........ frane ... Oh, they always do.... ;D We actually have a growing number of 'regulars' who come just to see them, we live in the type of neighborhood kids leave on Halloween ( better neighborhoods have better candy ), so we do what we can to keep them around ;D Bikerrandy..... Not quite, but thanks . sitnwrap .... Well, I used to heat up a scroll saw blade and stick it into a plastic knife handle..... but now the pumpkin carving kits from Pumpkin Masters are the way to go, they usually come with pattern books ( I'm too stubborn to use those patterns, I make most of my own designs, I'll let you know which ones are not my own ) Thank you everyone!!!!! Chris

Well shoot!!!! Flickr is no longer free for me, so I can only see my 200 most recent photos until I pay for it.... I'll have some previous years photos in a couple of days, until then here's some better shots of those.... I was amazed how few people knew what this was in reference to..... anyone care to guess? This pumpkin was small about 5" diameter ( but this is nothing, just you wait ), I haven't done a big pumpkin in a while, most are about a foot or so in diameter. We cheated, this one was from a book ( most are my original designs ).... do note the mummy in the background, that is from the pumpkin too. Hardly anyone could tell what this was.... but those that did, got it in a heartbeat...... what do you think? And finally.... Heath Ledger as " the Joker ", notice the crack running from the top all the way through the bottom? I dropped it while I was carving it ... I almost kicked it across the room, thankfully Diane ( my better half ) stopped me... and with the lights on..... just not the same ;D Just a neat little comparison, this was the actual image I started with to the final product ( I have one for the fourth pic, but I wanna see who can see it first )...

This wrap really made me appreciate the perfect curves and curls you all are able to make ( how do you do that ).I'm not thrilled with the design, but I like the way the bail at the top came out on this one... also, with such a clear stone I wanted to make the back as unobtrusive as possible.... but in the end, I not even sure which side IS the back ;D. we had a decent sunset, so....

Wow Chris, Dean really set you up good with this box of goodies! Some of that will tumble really well and you do have some that would make beautiful cabs there! Fran Yes he did, Fran..... I would love to have some of these cut into cabs, I'm just not sure where to have it done... I need to check around.....

This one came out O.K. My back was aching ( rough week at work ) so I was man handling the wire a bit.... trying to hurry too much. So, what does everyone think? and the back... By the way, I just love the look of petrified wood all rough and " wood " looking.... what does everyone think about wrapping this? Has anyone seen anything that rough done before? thanks for the input..... Chris

I'm glad you all at least appreciate " my ugly one " ;D . Sitnwrap.... Thanks, and what kind of file should I use ... I'm going to come back to this one, you have me thinking about what I could do to it.... And I'm an electrician, I can't be afraid of some little old wire ;D ... Randy.... come on man... tell me what you really think , I've seen your work! Frane.... Thank you also.....Of course gold would have looked better, but there's no way I'm just going to "play" with some gold wire ( O.K., o.k.... I guess I am afraid of SOME wire )!!!! Blarney.... wow, some of the stuff on that metalworkers sight is wild!!!!! I've never seen anything like some of those !!!!

You all are just too kind.... ...... akansan... thanks for the tip.... I could actually polish the tools fairly easily, mine are so small and cheap that I have no qualms about messing tham up ;D . Would anyone want to make some cabs for me? I have a box of rocks I purchased from DeanW and some of them are just too pretty to just smash up and tumble, IMHO ( I, honestly, just barely know what I'm doing, I'm learning though ). I have been posting some pics on this thread... forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=28372 ... I still have many, many more to show .... thanks again everyone!!!!!!! Chris

Here is my fourth wrap.... this stuff is fun !!! Front... back... blurry, sorry .... I am listening to everyone's advice.... keep it coming. I would love to play with some square and half round wire, but it is a little out of my budget right now. Hell, I only have a couple more stones worth wrapping right now... and I just checked the stones in my tumbler ( bag that came with the tumbler, just went into polish ) and really I'm not impressed with any of those.... bummer. I could always try rewrapping some though.... Just curious.... I've read the term " face " the cutters to get a cleaner cut...... any idea what that means? I assume grind down the bevel... but I'm not sure. thanks again everyone, Chris

This was my third wrap.... and I wanted to try something different... it works, but boy is it ugly . At least all my bails look pretty good. The stone has a very odd shape ( not as square as the pics make it look ), so I had alot of trouble getting it even close to symmetrical. I just made it up as I went... What do you guys think? ....front on left back on right ( just so you can see how I did it )....

Steveholmes.... no, it's not a " plant " ( I know what you mean ;D ) , # 12 is a sand dollar fossil...... amazing how little some things have changed over a few million years!!!!
Also, I have to thank DeanW for this box.....

Thank you so much llana, Jo , and especially Randy ( without that tutorial I never would have tried it )!!!! If anyone know of any other tutorials like that please post them, I would love to see some other methods.... My bail at the top is a little messy, but I'm happy so far. I think it is easier working with tumbled stoned, as symmetry is not that important . I did notice that the wire made marks on the stones ( mostly the black one ), it didn't scratch them, just left silver marks wherever it touched them... is that because of the cheap wire, or maby the saitn finish on the stones? I do need some better tools though, I bought a cheap set at Hobby Lobby and didn't notice it was a mini tool set ( boy are they small!!! ).... and a better tumbler, a tile saw, etc..... boy the list just keeps growing ;D
