Those look like they've been tumbled. I see lots of yellow orbs in that first two - should cab up real nice.

Turned out great! The wrap sets the stone off very well.

Great cabs! You made the crazy lace even crazier - I'd call it a party cab. My favorite is the Stone Canyon.

I've only made about 15 or 20 ammolite cabs but I've never backed them - just used the quartz caps. On a couple of the first ones I capped them then lapped the back side until the color showed and capped the other side for a two-sided cab.

Gorgeous cabs - nice polish. I like the "lick of flame" one the best.

..... Never heard of Mt. St. Helen's Blue Jay.... going on a google adventure now Krystee, Thanks for the comment.. I don't think you will find Mt. St. Helen's Blue Jay on google. My rock hunting partner found the site and decided on the name just last month. This agate pretty scarce but hopefully, we can go back and find enough to share with some of you.

Ditto on what Ed said. Wow! Especially the Carey plume - that's gotta be one of my favorite wraps that you've done.

That's one of the nicest Marfa plumes I've seen and a great wrap to go with it.

That turned out super! I didn't think you would sell the bare cab.

Very nice Donnie. Wire wrapping something that small looks very difficult.

I'll give them all A's. Beautiful work Tony. I think my favorite is a toss-up between the Calico lace and the Charoite.

This is what I did with a small piece of Mt. St. Helen's Blue Jay agate, since it was too small to slab. Also, this is how to make a cab if you don't have a rock saw. This one fell offf the dop stick, so I just finished it by holding it in my hands - and I still have my fingernails!: The starting piece: Initial grinding: Need to remove some pesky matrix you can see here on the edge: A little more grinding - matrix gone - still needs shaping: Getting there with the shaping/sanding: Final cab on light and dark backgrounds (the dark background made it look more blue than it actually is): I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Beautiful stone. The question is do you just want to sell it or get a good price for it? I would go to eBay and look up fire agate cabochons and then go to "completed items". That will tell you what they are (or aren't) selling for. However, with your wrapping skills I believe you could wrap it in GF and put it on eBay (or the venue of your choice) for a starting price of around $99. I would also wait until the Christmas season to list it on eBay when sales are the best. BTW, I just went to eBay and looked for myself and noticed that the carved FA's go for a lot more than the standard domed FA cabs.

When I went to Q in 2010, I built a bed for my truck canopy that would fit over some recycle boxes that I planned to use to haul rock home in. It worked great until I bought about 800 pounds of rock and it wouldn't all fit under my bed. You haven't had fun until you've tried getting dressed in a truck canopy that is about 18" from the bed to the ceiling of the canopy - - with no place to put your feet - glad I had some makeshift curtains for the canopy. I would do it again though just to meet the nice people of RTH. Oh btw, all that rock is still in the recycle boxes which now sits under some cedar trees. What was I thinking?

You're off to a good start. I like the idea of an aluminum saw to minimize corrosion when using water for your coolant.

I can see the rainbow in the bottom half of the slab, but I'm sure the ring goes all the way around. Some fantastic iris comes out of the Brazilian agate.

Super nice! I like the dramatic pattern change across the face. Should make some awesome cabs.
