Thank you all for your comments. It was looking at the wraps on this forum that I decided to try my hand at this. I've now completed 12 and am really enjoying it. Yeah, I know, Randy has done more than that in one weekend. Garry

It's been awhile since I've posted here, but I have been enjoying looking at all your beautiful work! My friend found this piece of rare red druzy and asked me to wrap it for him, so I did. It's the coolest druzy I've ever seen. He was going to give it to his stepdaughter, but when he saw it he thought he would just "hold onto it for awhile". The stone is about 2 inches tall, wrapped in 14K GF: Garry

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like most people are partial to the opal. I guess the proper spelling is dendritic, not dendretic.

Great job on your first cab. Don't lose it. I tell people that I am teaching to cab to look closely at where the dome meets the bezel. You want a well-defined line that is nice and straight (for the majority of the cabs anyway). Your dome/bezel intersection looks good from the photos. I think you got a fantastic polish for your first cab too. Garry

That's very interesting Daniel. I was actually thinking about trying to match the greenish color that is in the stone rather than the red before I picked the red. Although it's interesting, I'm not partial to the yellowish-brown you have on there now. Could you try it in the greenish tone to match the green in the interior stone (but just a shade or two darker)? Hey, maybe you could start a cab consulting business in your spare time. What kind of a program are you using?
Thanks to all for your great comments!
Garry

I like those Kurt! Very original and well done. I'm sure the middle of the tiger eye will look just fine once you get done with it. You seem to have the patience for it. Garry

That's cool Woody. I just came to this place to post the exact same thing ( I think we got it from the same person). However, you beat me to the perch, er punch. I figured Mel would like it. Garry

Jim, I did pull the tray out as far as it would go and still catch the water off the discs. I also turned the water down a bit, but I still got wet. I think maybe some plastic taped to the outer edge of the tray would help too. I must say that I was impressed with the machine when I used it - still ran just like new. Garry

Great project Nate! The vise looks great, but I was wondering if you can tighten it down enough with the screw handle to firmly hold a rock while cutting. I have a similar design on my big saw and I ended up bending the threaded stock trying to get it tight enough to hold the rock in the vise.
I always grab the rock in my vise and try to get it to come loose before turning on the saw. If I can move it, I re-position it in the vise and try to move it again. The one thing that can wreck your blade in a second is if the rock comes loose while cutting.
I suggest you attach your wood to the vise jaws and see how firmly it holds the rock. Also remember that nice clean wood holds better than old, oily wood. If it doesn't hold tight enough with the current design, I guess you could always use a "C" clamp over the top or around the back side.
I just thought I would mention this because of the problem I had.
Good luck!
Garry

Wow! Based on your write-up, I feel good! I got one that I never use. It's just sitting on the shelf. You've sold me on it though Jim. I'm getting it down, polishing it up, and turning it on. I got it from a 93-year old guy who probably made 5,000 cabs on it. He loved it, but when I tried it out, I didn't like the way it sprayed me down when I sat in front of it. There must be a simple fix for the water spray/splatter though. Garry

Thank you all for your comments. Randy, Michael isn't a member yet, but I would think he will be in the near future. I gave the cab and wire to Michael and this is what he came up with all on his own. He has a younger brother that makes a great cab too, but struggles a bit with wire wrapping. I think he just needs a little more time (Don't we all?) Garry

Great job on those Adrian! I would have to agree with most that the Willow Creek wins the prize between these two. Garry

Hello All. It's been awhile since I posted here, so I thought I would show a few recent cabs. My grandson (age 13) has taken an interest in cabbing and wire wrapping, so I thought I would post some of his and my work together. WA orb jasper by my Grandson (Michael): OJ that I did: Back-lit: Tahoma Jasper wire wrap by Michael (I did the cab & Michael did the wrap) This is Michael's first real wrap in 14K GF. He did a couple with round copper before this. A little Priday plume that I did: The two Michael did taken outside to show the shine a little better. Another shot of the OJ taken outside to show the shine a little better: I hope you enjoyed looking as much as Michael enjoyed working together on these. Garry
