OK.....One of the things I had in mind when I started cabbing and wire wrapping was gifts for friends and family......but another thought has been lingering in my mind.......maybe I can sell a few....maybe even enough to pay for my rocks and wire.......
My question is this... do you (anyone who reads this) sell your cabs/ wraps ?......or is this purely a hobby for you..............?.......just wondering....................

OK....now that I have associated your name with your work I owe you a great big thank you !!.....when I posted a pic of my first four wraps you seemed surprised that they were only my first and then said I was off to a great start......at that moment I had not connected who you are to the incredible wrapss that you post.....I am not much for names....never have been.....lol....I remember faces and events like they were etched in my brain but names I lose almost as soon as I turn around.....so on these types of forums I rarely pay much attention to who is posting what.....BUT your work has stood out to me as the goal......your wraps are flawless ......so..........again to realize that it was the creator of such great work that said I was off to a great start is indeed a feather in my cap...............

yep , these are my first....also I have only been cabbing for about a month.....I was going to go with the half round but I was in a hurry and bought what the local hobby store had on hand .....honestly I surprised myself with how decent they look for first tries.....my wife was already holding them up to herself to see how they are going to look !.....

These are jasper cabs and copper wire...I know that allot of folks start with copper as a beginners wire but it does look nice with the jasper cabs.... Attachments:

The slab had Montana written on it so I am assuming it is Montana Agate...at any rate it is a very pretty piece of material.... Attachments:

Those will be some nice looking cabs when you are done......I have not been cabbing long so my comments are to be taken with a grain of salt......I try to get as close to done as I can with each wheel.....meaning that if it were possible to get a shine with my 100 grit wheel thats what I would do...but since it's not I try to get as even and smooth as I can .....then when I move to the 220 I do the same thing...try to get as close to a finished product as is possible with that wheel....and so it goes until I polish....in this manner you will go back to the previous wheels far less........once you know the personality of your machine and wheels and what to expect from each one your confidence will grow.....and as your confidence grows so will your skill and artistry......

......nope not wet ....to tell the truth when I first started sawing the slab I figiured it would provide only a modest shine......when I got the first one done I was very surprised and pleased at how great the shine was........

Here are the cabs I did today....I bought a mixed box of slabs off ebay ....most of them have the name of the material written on them......these cabs came from a slab labled Jade and Quartzite......I haven't the experience to know but that's what the label says ........ Attachments:

water shields are going to be rebuilt as soon as I can scrounge a couple more buckets from work.....now that Ive seen what is needed the next generation should be a bit more effective in keeping me from showering in the process......
I must say that while my wife seemed indifferent to me building the machine it was quite pleasing to see her smile when she saw the first cab !! And my son ,to whom most things I do are only marginally acceptable on his coolness meter , saw the obsidian , picked it up and looked at me and said this one's pretty cool !!......that was like hitting a home run !!!......
I wonder what it would have been like to be in a small room at the Cistine Chapel painting a picture of a sunset when in walks Michaelangelo , taking a break from painting the ceiling , and looks at my paint by numbers sunset and says man that looks good........well what I imagine that would have been like is how I feel about the good comments from the veterans here............

I am new to the cabbing hobby and just begining.....so I am not going to offer my services ...lol....Its a beautiful stone to be sure.....I would not be surprised if one of the more experienced cabbers here doesn't offer help within a day or two....this seems to be a group of genuinely helpful and nurturing folks....good luck ! I am sure that help is on the way !.............

Thanks for the good comment folks....it's encouraging .............building a full diamond machine before I had even had a chance to be in the presence of a cab machine was indeed a gamble.......one that I believe has paid off........I knew if I was going to do this I wanted to be able to do it right , from the beginning. I am not one to tolerate the tedium of changing belts / disks for each cab....once I got the rocks on the dop I was able to cab each one in one sitting ....six wheels and the buff lap.......I don't think I could have started with a six wheeler any cheaper either......less than $600 ......
I figured I would like the hobby since I enjoy seeing polished stones. I tried tumbling with a "toy" tumbler with limited success. Checked into real tumblers just to find out that they are no faster than the toy , just bigger !!.......Waiting for rocks that might or might not be shiny in a month is SUCH a drag. With the cabber I can cut a preform , put it on a dop , and have a polished stone in an hour or less......hhhmmm an hour.....a month......I will take semi instant gratification thank you !!........will I still be cabbing in a year ? maybe not every day but just knowing I can go and fire up the cabber at a moments notice and walk away a little while later with a finished stone will keep me coming back.......now I just need to wire wrap and I will be in...............
