Yeah, it can be a struggle. That equipment is about all I have. But it's a way in and it sounds like you just entered the big league!

Been looking forward to my first contest ... The rock itselfs comes from a Parking lot somewhere in the States and is probaly some kind of rhyolite. On our roadtrip during the States we were a bit surpriced by the heat, so we decided we needed a couple of days at the Beach, so we booked a nice hotel right on the Beach in Biloxi. It meant we had to drive a bit longer the we normally did pr day but we managed to solve it with some icecream - Andrea 3 years We arrived a couple of hours before checkin so we parked the car dieing to go to the beach and we were happy to see a really nice Beach with trees, White sand and the kids were laughing and singing on the Way Down to the water. But something was wrong!!!!....there was this lovely Beach, the sun was shining and it was a really nice day BUT there was not a single person on the beach besides us! Me screaming at the kids not to go into the water and the Oldest had allready dipped her toes in the water giving me THAT look(if you have teenageres you know the look)! But it turned out to be some kind of Flesh eating bacteria in the water so we spend the next 3 Day in the pool. But my cab is going to be a fun memory of that Beach as the red in the cab symbolizes the bacteria in the Water. Mona Great stuff - red weed like War of the Worlds Except its killing us! (A message from terrestrial ecology perhaps?) Do I catch tones of blue in there too? Just a thought re " a Parking lot somewhere in the States " doesn't sound too salubrious. Always better to try to note a location, even a rough one and yeah, it may have come from a parking lot but as per the 2017 Tumbling comp, (Lake) Lavic Jasper sounds better than States Parking lot Jasper and if you even have just the state, e.g. California Rhyolite ... you get the idea, I'm sure!

If you do think there's arsenic in there, best stop rubbing the stuff on your trousers: dermal absorption

I'm happy to be informed otherwise but I thought As minerals were often yellow /orange. I do know that Ni in chrysoprase is responsible for the green colouration.

I've seen a reasonable attempt at polishing obtained by hand using sand. In New Zealand there was a huge jade boulder in a museum that was used as a touch stone with each visitor encouraged just to rub the rock with sand. I may have a photo somewhere...

I'll venture rheopexy (/rheopecty) due to the very fine product that you obtain from grinding glass and the particles acting as colloids.

Finished, refinished and re-refinished. Is it always like this? Re-touched the shaping and repeated the above. I didn't want to go for a circle as I wanted to keep a reference to the oblate setting sun in my beach photos. Doesn't look all that much different to before ... Please tell me you can see the difference! This is a piece I hounded on the beach at Whitby on the English North Sea coast, earlier in the year. It was just sat around looking all innocuous like a pebble for a while, when I decided to cut it whilst thinking what to do for this competition. Then 'Bingo'!

There's still a short time remaining to finish your entries and get them in! Two of these images are small cabochons that look like the sun... the other is a small sun that looks like a cab... Still another picture to go (after another repolish) but work in progress.

Hi and welcome. You may find fan motors don't have the required torque ... depending on the motor of course.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're already in; hook, line and sinker.
Things that don't entirely succeed are welcome as that's how we can all improve and learn without having to make all the mistakes.
