Excellent videos. Very well done! Thanks very much for sharing your procedures. A question, if you will? Just a thought? Would it be suitable to use the variable size ceramic material only for the fill/cushioning material to make up the required load in all stages? Instead of using/or adding other tumbled rock particles/pieces in the load? IV

Sometimes this SC's ADD gets the better of me. As an Update - I received the information & communication from RJ Gem Studio concerning his New Cad Faceting Program that he developed. The reply came in a most prompt an thorough manner. Apologize to Our Faceting Forum for taking so long for getting back to you all. I need to work on my communication problems before I make any more comments. Thank you for your patience & understanding. IV USAF 62-66

Dear Friends .... Hope this SC is not out of line here. If anyone/anybody/everybody is offended, just tell me where to go.
From time to time I purchase or in the market for equipment, rocks, supplies, lapidary & jewelry, (new or used). Would prefer to purchase/support & do business with those RTH Dealer Members, or other Individuals that may specialize in different areas. that are part of our Great Forum Family. If this has been posted/covered somewhere else that I missed please let me know.
If you prefer sent a PM. I would enjoy hearing from and doing business with you. Your patience, understanding & consideration would very much be appreciated. Thank you very much!

I don't know if this is in the correct thread or not, if so please let me know where to post it.
I'm needing advice on what kind of Kiln to use on a variety of crafts: fusing/melting glass, making jewelry/beads, etc. I'm not really into pottery.
Thank you & Happy Crafting....
Hi and welcome ... nice to have you here. I'm a little late on this. It seems that you have been able to get some good input into this matter.
When this SC stated dabbling into casting, etc. I realize that I would also need some kind of cost effective way to go. Purchased a manual control satellite kiln. Eventually purchase an electronic digitally controller and had the kiln wired into that. So now I can accurately control the steps, time, & temperature for the craft I'm working on.
With that said I have been considering, for some time, purchasing a small digitally temperature controlled Paragon Kiln. Jamesp & manoglass have covered that very well. I soon realized that the manual temperature controlled kiln, although more affordable for me at the time was not as accurate as needed. Hope this helps? IV USAF 62-66

Good day, [Moderators] - I could not really find a section of the forums where it was appropriate to post this. I am kind of new here. Could you please move this post if this does not fit the intent of this sub-forum? Thank you. I am just starting this hobby, and have only produced about 10 lbs. of finished rock so far. I believe that I will be making about 75 - 100 lbs. of finished rock each year. I am not selling any of it. But am looking for creative uses for lots of beautiful rock! My wife came up with the idea of putting some in some clear vases which we have already, to kind of beautify flower arrangements. I also saw the someone had filled in a garden flower bed with rocks. That might be nice too, but the plants / flowers might cover up all of the rocks, and leaves and dirt, and rain water (very high chloride water were I live) might stain the rocks too? I mean, I could just put them in to a wooden bowl. I might have couple around. But I really think this forum has some great collective experience displaying nice stones! All ideas welcome! Pictures even better!! Greeting NevadaBii .... Missed your initial posting. Must of had another SM. Welcome to the Forum. Nice to have you here.

Ivan: Thank you for also confirming that my new car, located in the garage with the tumblers, has nothing to fear from the Vibratory Tumbler! Great peace of mind that. Also, my tumbler (not brand new, but looks unused) will come with some dry media. I will not be needing this. Now, the outside of the containers say 14000 and 1700, but my untrained eye says they both look like the same media to me. If you are interested in them (free), please send me a PM with your address information, and I will ship them out to you. -Bill PM Sent

Glad to hear that you're getting a handle on the questions you mentioned. The MT-4 is also great for finishing jewelry castings, an other metal components. It will polish SS, gold nuggets & jewelry up very nicely. But don't recommend doing it with the stones in place.
There are a number of dry medias also that can be used that will do a satisfactory job. You made an excellent choice. What I like is that you don't have to chase the tumbler around the work shop. It stays where you put it without having to anchor it down. Hope this helps? Keep us posted on your progress.

Gem Cut Studio program ..... I have been unable to make any contact with the email address on site. Does anybody have a phone number that they can be reached? Or maybe a name and address of the individual/contact doing the development?
This an any other information this SC may have missed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for creating this post. As mentioned it looks promising that even this SC might be able to handle this. IV

Hope I'm not out of line here. Just wanted to let you all know that I purchased a New Mt-4 from Rock Shed and it arrived today. Rock Shed was outstanding and couldn't of handle the order any better. it is currently being used to clean up some old clad pennies that I found MDing.
As a matter of fact I ordered a Tune-up kit also from Rock Shed for my old Mt-4. Hopefully the next time I report on that I will have the Kit and get the machine back to square #1. Hope this helps? Thank you Rock Shed and Forum Family for your assistance with this matter. IV USAF 62-66

The only thing I have had trouble doing myself is the spring that's inside the other spring, it has a bolt both ends so it pulls while the outside one pushes, a really specialised bit of kit. I tried making a new one which is not too hard, but heat treating the spring to get the spring back into it is something I haven't succeeded with just yet, always too hard and brittle or too soft and stretchy. I will probably end up making something not as fancy external to the other spring, it shouldn't be too difficult it's only to supply adjustable tension. A bit of an update. After agonizing over this I finally completely disassembled the unit this evening. I have it all apart on my work bench. It will require a complete cleaning as grit & residue splashed all over the base & springs & rubber grommets. All the rubber grommets are hardened as well as seals & o rings.
Planning on getting a repair kit, sometime, an may have to machine or improve on some items to hopefully improve the set up somewhat. From what I can determine the old compression spring unit looks satisfactory and should work. However I should be getting a replacement when I order the kit. Maybe just keep this for a spare as I don't know if they sell them separately and for how much.

Did you use cold rolled steel? No it's a new surplus stainless steel shaft from some sort chicken breast thumping machine that Tyson chicken discontinued according to everything I found it was made by Berry Plumbing who builds these machines. I only looked it up after I threaded it because it was so hard to thread. The pictures are of the remainder of the shaft that is about 20 inches I just took them. I cut it with a sawsall Just can across your project. You should be commended on being able to hand thread as well as hand clamp the material to keep it in proper alignment? Hope it works all for you.

I have two and they both have broken springs, this is all good information for me, though I know it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get parts shipped to Australia. I played with padding between the barrel and the plate but found it absorbed some of the vibration, I fixed it by getting a G clamp and using it to tighten up the top edge of the barrel holder, just use the clamp across the top edges and screw it in until the plates are bent in a bit,it doesn't take much and works a treat. Edit. thats as clear as mud. just use the G clamp to push the top edge in a bit, I don't mean leave it there forever. Excellent idea concerning concerning compressing the top of holder. I'll have to keep this in mind as the thought has occurred to try this. For now, Essentially using the foam backing tape takes up some of the slack and tightens the tub when secure.
Talked to DP today and there is a tune-up kit available for the Mt-4 .... 490-402097 @ $52.00 to replace all the incidentals that can attribute to this problem. Not what I'm going to do, just yet? An ingenious entrepreneur could probably come up with ways to modify this and hold the costs down.
In a way I like the idea of the tune up kit, however, I was hoping a cosst effective procedure might be available. To begin with a complete disassembly of the machine would be required. I'm sure a rebuilt or new machine would last longer than this owner. Hope this may help? I'll try to keep you posted. Anyway I can help - let me know?
