I use the same amount of AO 500 as I do polish, but that's in the Lot O. Sometimes I do a 1,000 stage, but more and more, I just run the 500 stage a day or two longer, then go to polish. Have you ever tried to run the AO 500 for three days and skip the polish?

I've tried dry polishing it similar to what Jugglerguy does with petoskey stones. Turns out OK. Gather no moss, Colin

The brown with subtle shades of brown jasper that I find in the grasslands polishes well, but it's, well, kinda brown. The desert or prarie jasper (can't remember the name) sold on The Rock Shed is amazing and less expensive tHan other material. It also forms quicly: it's on that boarder with just hard enough to polish well. As far as buying stuff, I think the Desert Jasper is the best bang for the buck. Gather no moss, Colin Colin is having good results with Desert jasper. Does it look like this Colin ? : That's the ticket.

As Stimpy would say "Whilikers." That thing might beat everything in my modest collection.

jamesp I was figurin the AO80 was rounding off. Will eventually try AO120 when I run out of SIC120. Scary pic BTW. I just wish that AO22 was good for rough tumbling in the roto...Have you tried it?

In the Lot-o the ao80 did not break down all the way, but the shine, in the end, was fine.
History: I pulled rocks out of rotery. Put in Lot-O with ao80 without any augmentation and buzzed away. After four days, dumped out and felt/noticed small particles during cleanout. Pulled an agate (Northern Colorado Rootbeer Agate), let dry, and was reasonably shiney.
Did not like, however, the gritty remains, so I reloaded and rebuzzed with ao80 with a couple tablespoons of Borax, hoping to thicken to pick up grit. Every day I would stop the buzz and turn the barrels upside-down with a vigorous shake.
In the end still a lot of grit. Cleaning off not fun. Shine turned out fine.
Don't like the remaining grit and rigimoral. Might try ao120. But for the time being going to stick with the three-step: roll 30 sic, buzz sic 120 for 4 days, polish for at least 1 day.
That's what I do.

7 looks like some pet wood that I roll, and I see your reflection in it.
90% of the rocks that I roll are given away. Today there was a car wash garage sale fund raiser for AVID (a college preparatory program for underrepresented students). I sold small snack filled zip lock bags full of these rocks for $2. I bet $50 was raised. People even came back with kids to dig through the buckets.
Point is that although we're hyper critical, most people groove on the things we reject.
Nice group. I like the greenish one.

That larger piece of pet wood you could practice breaking up with a hammer. Often the insides have agatey filling. Wear protection.
Good fun, have luck.

Like it. Scientific prose/grammar is nice and clean. Fossil kinda looks like the Batmobile (a simile never found in any science journal).
