To me Amygdaloidal basalt is also possible, but am unsure.

Strange request. Maybe impossible. Am trying to ID the type of rock this is made from. A friend of mine is selling it. She said it was some type of jasper. She does not know where the artist got the rock from, but has posed the question. Based on what she told me, it is about 6-7 hardness. Skulls that this artist makes are usually high polish/gloss. This one is not high gloss, which makes me think the rock might be softer in places. Thank you.

For many, the ultimate find is a meteorite. I see frequent posts in a variety of places of people sharing photos of a “meteorite” that they found. Others often let them know that their find is probably not a meteorite. Curiosity Mars rover captured this image of an iron-nickel meteorite nicknamed "Cacao" on Jan, 28, 2023, the 3,725th Martian day, or sol, of the mission. This meteorite, discovered in the "sulfate-bearing unit," a region on Mars' Mount Sharp, is estimated to be about 1 foot (30 centimeters) across. It's one of several meteorites Curiosity has seen while exploring Mars. Credits: NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS (PH) If I would have come across this on Earth, meteorite would not have been my guess. What do you think?

I would say Fluorite or Watermelon Tourmaline.

Had to get away before work yesterday. Hartman Creek State Park. Allen Lake, Waupaca County, WI. Only other people in this area were a family fishing. The pond next to the lake. Heard a Loon. Spent many minutes watching this spring bubble. What I think is Cardinal Lobelia. Will share more photos of my short trip later.

I have purchased a variety of items from Thunderbird Supply. Started in the 1980's in person and now online. They are very trustworthy and always say if beads are natural stone or not. INdicate if beads are dyed Howlite (or other materials), block, etc. The Rock Shed also has some beads available. They do not misrepresent anything they sell.

NDK I love this theme. rockbrain A great example of Fordite. Another possible material is counter scraps. I have many that are Terrazzo, composition Quartzite and dyed stone embedded in resin.

I really did not need another project, but the opportunity came up. We use this liquor at work for Margaritas. The bottle became empty yesterday. We just throw empty bottles in recycling, so it was fair game. My first thought was a lamp. Second thought was breaking and tumbling. I think the glass is this color. Not a coating. I want to put a LED light inside the bottle. Mount a polished rock slab to a thick piece of nice wood. The rock slab and wood would need a hole drilled in them large enough to accommodate the bottle. Another area on the bottom of the wood would need to be shaped with a router to accommodate the base of the LED light. Plan B would be to cut a piece of PVC pipe or copper tubing long enough to go from the bottom of the wood to the center of the bottle. Then arrange some LED lights so they stand straight and waterfall down the edges of the pipe. The underside of the wood would need a channel cut in it to accommodate the electric cord. I would rather have just one light, as I think using a LED strand would look cheap. What do you think? Any other suggestions on how to transform this bottle into a lamp? Thank you Really cool idea!! I have made some lamps from burl wood and cigar boxes. my only suggestion is to plan out how you will hide the cord. In my experience, the difference between a clean piece and one that looks awkward often comes down to how thoughtfully the cord(s) were placed. The cord will go through a slot in the wood/rock slab base.

Northern Lightning brings Air Force, National Guard, Marine and Navy units from Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio and Virginia together at Volk Field, northwest of the Wisconsin Dells. From August 7 to August 18, they’ll participate in combat readiness exercises involving more than 60 aircraft and 1,000 service members. In addition, representatives from allied countries are coming to observe the exercises. The flight zone includes Brown, Calumet, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Outagamie, Portage, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Winnebago and Wood counties. The busiest times are between 8:30 in the morning and 5:30 in the evening. I heard and “watched” some exercises yesterday. Sorry for the photo quality. My laptop cannot do screen shots.

Very cool idea, my friend! I wish I could remember... 🤔 The funny thing is once I sit down to type, so much comes back. It's been fun. I remember so much when I look at old photos. Some are from when I was a child. Others remind me of stories my Mom and grandparents told me. Once history is lost, it is lost forever.

Deviled eggs my daughter and I made for the family reunion. We ended up with about 40 and only 5 were left over. Eggspert job on the deviled eggs Beth. Thanks. We often cook/bake together, but only for special events. My daughter takes any egg whites that do not look good and some egg yolk filling and makes egg salad from them. A perfect sandwich spread or for dipping tortilla chips in.
