I think I would have left my camping equipment behind to make room for more rocks. You did good.

I don't have a vibe and have never tried corn cob media. I tried walnut shell and wasn't impressed with the result. How does your polish compare to doing the same rocks with standard 1200 polish?

Great entries and there is still time. If I make one, my video title will be fat fingers...thin cab. Not sure it will attract views but it would be fun

I have only "drilled" a few but have been successful. I put the stone in a cup of water to keep the bit and stone cool and drill(really grind) slowly. If I had a drill press, I would use that for more control.

All good answers above. A 4" will work fine as long as you have a way to keep things wet. "That's what she said."

Another option is a shooting supply store. They have comfortable ear-gear and lots of choices. Some will allow regular sound or even enhance it, while protecting you from loud noise. Can also get bluetooth, so can play music. Lots of choice, but at end of the day there is nothing wrong with the foam inserts if your only need is sound protection.

I tested the theory by leaving slurry in a jar for a few days. Sure enough, once it settled, it became like concrete. So as noted above, flush out your traps ASAP and don't do it again. Plumbing pipes are large, so don't panic.

That was awesome! Your spot is awesome, and it takes skill to pull good things out. If you ever start selling on eBay, please let me know! Again, great video. -Nicholas I am a horrible businessman. I collect for fun. In fact, if someone wants something they see in one of my videos, I send them to my daughter who needs the money for college.

Poor pups! At one point in the video you could see and hear a monster bug whiz by. I'm guessing you have some good repellent.
You sure got some nice chunks! I like the first one best, but the second is pretty sweet, too. Love the dendrites and I love silver in dolomite.
Question- what is the easiest way to tell cobalt from silver?
High grade silver shines up when rubbed and is solid, whereas cobalt stays grey unless highly polished and can be crumbly. Of course, the metal detector tells you a lot. Cobalt is a low tone very close to iron, then silver and then nickel. The trick is knowing if your rock is mostly cobalt, nickel or silver when a mix. Mistakes are made and some good rocks are left behind. Cobalt stains pink and nickeline green. Unfortunately, that cannot be completely trusted because one rock can get stained from a nearby rock.

I have experienced lots of "mud" when tumbling almandine garnet and fluorite. I think the rocks were in there too long.

Tommy Is there anyway to delete entire posts that I created? Only if there have been no responses. The software doesnt allow members to delete other members posts. If your thread has responses and you delete your original post it leaves behind a weirdly truncated thread. Good to know. Does that include quotes or does it blank them out? Not sure why I care, but I find software interesting.

I was staring at the first set of pictures and saw stones on the surface that I would pick up and then looking at your buckets, you sure got your share of excellent rocks. Congrats on a successful trip. Wish I could have crossed the border. Next time. Greig

Are you going to tell everybody that they also need to sing the list of Mohs 5-6 materials with their entry? Just like the periodic table song? LOL Greig, are you speaking of the song by Tom Lehrer? The same person who wrote Poisoning Pidgeons in the Park? I probably wasn't the most normal kid growing up, thanks to my dad, I grew up listening to that type of music! Exactly, although it has been copied my many since.

I used to sell figurines at trade shows. I have never done anything with minerals.
My first question is do you really need to bring your own tables? At my events, tables were always available. In which case, I would drape them. I used burlap on the top and would staple-gun coloured drapes on 3 sides that I had custom made.
If you want to make your life easier, come up with some standard pricing - eg. everything in this display is $100. Everything in the next display is $125, etc. As stuff sells, you can move things around or pull out more from boxes that you store under your tables.
A display is most attractive if there is variety in height, display materials and product. Always higher in the back and lower in the front. Don't be shy about using interesting display materials. For instance, across the back have a big piece of driftwood with earrings, some large raw rocks or ?? Also, not everything has to be for sale. For instance, a display showing various stages from raw rock to jewelry generates interest and will keep people longer at your display. Or display some of your goods on large slices. Another idea is something else that offers variety is different coloured felt squares from the dollar store.
I guarantee that you will learn from your experience and will continuously change it up for the next show(s). Good luck!

This should be a fun contest. I am glad you said that we could stabilize. I hope people tell us a little bit about their stabilizing process. I am about to try Epoxy 330 for the first time (without a vacuum jar).

It was sounding good, right up to and including pain killers. Poor you having to get cut open. The good news is they have gotten quite good at this operation and you will be surprised how quickly you recover. Be nice to the nurses. ;-)
