Welcome from Atlanta. Keep in mind that perfection can only be framed with imperfection. It's all good (and shiny).

Hellloooo BenB, from Atlanta. I have the biggest brown fig tree in the world growing in my back yard. Love feeding the raccoons and neighborhood kids. And I live in one of the best rock collecting locations in the US. C'mon down sometime.

I call lapidary grade any sized stone that is well featured, bright, without fracture, and will high grade as a worked piece. Tumbler grade is what I see in one to three inch pieces (of a suitable mounting) size wherein it is more likely to show character via abrasion and may high grade if shiny or well featured enough.

Question for the fossil guys here. Most this wood is fairly recent I think, something like 10-15 million years old or so. Anyone have any idea on the bone? I'm thinking maybe a worn caudal vertebrae from a crocodile relative as that area was tropical and maybe swampy back then. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.....Mel Hey Sabre, you should send your question and any pictures to The Fossil Forum. We love to answer those questions and have the professional gravitas to get her done quick. Join us if you like. Best.

No, never, don't do it. But wait a moment, certainly you can go outside? Slurry is dirt of sorts. I let me slurry bucket settle and pour off the clean water outside. What is left in the top of the (polish) bucket I use to polish my car. Never use active slurry to polish the car!

Everybody just stop, put down your tumbling weapons.... If you are young and cannot afford squat... just join a local rock club and use their equipment. My club has a fantastic work room with plenty of lap tools, open 3 times a week, basic charge of $3 an hour to use and more good advice than you can shake a bloodhound at. Membership in the club is $25 per year, for the whole family.
