Did this box start with you Luminin - and was it already stocked with items? I'm trying to understand how the whole process works in terms of what is added and what is taken. Yep! The box started with me, fully stocked. Each person takes and adds to it, slowly shuffling the material. At the end, the box returns to me and then after I do some shuffling of my own, it starts again! It's a great way for everyone to get ahold of material they may not have access to, even if it's just to see it in person sometimes.

Sorry for the radio silence on my part! If a larger box is needed, then it's needed.
Cost is 95% of the concern, though we DO have those that can't physically lift a MFRB and thus must disassemble it bit by bit. That said, if all of those remaining have no qualms with a size upgrade, I say go for it! TBH, I choose to start with a medium because; That's what was used before I took over and it also leaves us with room to grow.
Start with the large and we're in a more expensive pinch when we need to upsize... Which so far has come up pretty much always...
Sometimes someone can be convinced to take some extra, or members prove how good they are at 3D packing puzzles and manage to make a MFRB work like Mary Poppins' carpet bag.
TL;DR - If everyone that hasn't went yet is cool with it, move up to a LFRB!

I gotcha, I think! Life seems to be settling down here, I've just caught up on the past week or two of posts. I'm so glad that everyone is enjoying this so far!
Also, I'll be in California for a week (April 27th-May 5th). Fresno-San Diego and a ton inbetween. I'd love to rub shoulders with any other RTH members while there if possible! I'll post this somewhere more relevant later, but this'll serve as a reminder for now. π

Exactly. Swapping in some local material or other extras is great. For those sitting on the sidelines: even those in nearly rock-free areas should feel free to participate in the Traveling Rock Box: ... Well said! I, for example, live in northern Ohio. Do you know what rocks we have here in Ohio? Flint. And that's down in CENTRAL Ohio. It's awesome stuff, but that is ALL we have. Rock-poor and yet I'm the one organizing this

Ali and I were just discussing dividing the boxes like you said, it's a good idea, but she pointed out just doing a rough box. One box full of rough, no slabs. We figured that most cabbers would also be able to slab. This would save a ton of room, eliminate most worry about broken pieces and still be a great source of diverse material for petty much everyone currently involved. It also wouldn't require two boxes that would need seperate organization, which is a big plus considering I've been AWOL for so much of this one (Sorry again everybody!).

That would help for future reference. I should have asked back at sign-up. Hindsight...

Good point, Ali, that's only fair. Well, I was intimidated about removing slabs from the last box as I really don't know much about them. I suppose at the conclusion of this round, I'll post pictures of all the slabs and put it to a vote!

Well, something I didn't get around to doing was going through the slabs and selecting the smaller or less desirable slabs and mailing them to Tommy to be auctioned off in support of the forum finances. Not that we want to auction off junk, but nothing in the box should be junk in the first place. Two stones, one bird...? uhh...yeah, I'd rather have two stones, don't much care for tumbling birds.

Lets just stick with the MFRB this round, I know it is super hard for all these generous members to take as much as they add, but I believe in them! To the point here, if our wonderful cabbers/slabbers could take some extra, I'd like to try to eliminate one of the SFRBs that contain slabs to make more room for tumbling material. As it sits, a little more than half the box is taken up by slabs, well, their packaging that keeps them intact anyways.

I forgot that I had to pick up my cousin after work. I'll try to get the box out tomorrow.
Bear with me please, working 10 hours a day, 6 days a week and I'm on a new job that's whooping my butt.
The box WILL be in the mail this week, that, I can promise.

The box will be going out today! I'll leave the list open for any last minute members to join or to vouch for our facebook friend, at least until the end of this week. Ready to recieve, MsAli?
