…And speaking of a traveling box. Cody Luminin where are you ? Still in Ohio! 😝 Busier than ever before, 2 (3?) new hobbies, just bought what will eventually be a house after I finish a complete renovation, nearing the end of my apprenticeship, college classes nearly complete as well. And yes, I still have rocks coming out of my ears, just with everything else they’re on hold. Pretty sure I have a box sitting around here somewhere that was supposed to go out, but that Covid interrupted… 🤔

Sorry for the radio silence! Shortened the participants to 10 for each box, I can and gladly will up it to 15 if needed, but as things are...
I’ll start putting the boxes together and get pictures posted probably this week, probably...
I’ve seen a few members who were/are interested but are worried that their material isn’t good enough, my own rock activity has come to a complete halt this past year. I have an incredible stock(rock?)pile of quality material that I have bought/traded for with other members here who hooked me up and have NO problem paying it forward. Who knows, maybe I have some Ohio flint laying around 😳 I haven’t posted a peep about that in... 2 years? And I still get messages asking if I have any.

Come on Walt manofglass! Tommy I agree, seems like participants are harder to come by, could be that it’s winter. Rock hounds hibernate I think. I suppose we can start once a box has 10 participants, though that may disturb the order. What do you all think? P.S. I’m now on Afternoons at work (4pm - Midnight EST) and my second math class has started, so if you need me, please mention me or send me a message.

I would like to sign up for the rough box. Do we need a full cabbing machine for the slab box? I have a diamond wheel expando and loto. Nope! So long as you have slabs to exchange, you’re welcome to participate! However, if there is a high-end/rare/expensive slab, I do ask that it be left for others than can do it justice. For example, if there’s a Tiffany slab and someone doesn’t have any cab equipment, they should leave it for another member that has a full setup and can put the material to immediate use. I’ll add something to this effect to the rules post.

MsAli Both! Either or, "rule" 10 kinda breaks it down. Do you think there should be a seperate thread for each?

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 12th round of the Traveling Rock Box!
This round will be different than the previous, there will be TWO independent boxes!
Please take a moment and read through the following rules, if any of these rules are broken, you may be banned from future Traveling Rock Boxes. If you feel you may have an issue with any of the rules or have a question, please message me.
BEING IGNORANT OF THE RULES DOES NOT MAKE YOU IMMUNE TO THE CONSEQUENCES.
1) Members that wish to participate must have at least 50 posts and have been a member of the forum for at least 3 months, less of either and they'll need at least 3 qualified members to vouch for them.
2) A minimum of 5 people (not including myself) and a maximum of 15 per box, per round.
3) If you are going to be traveling or otherwise busy when your turn comes, please let me know here so we can move you down the list.
4) Each member must post how much and, if labeled, what they've taken from the box here. Further, if you know what a material that you've added is, please label it as best you can.
A piece of tape on the rock, writing on the baggie or on the cardboard it is secured to makes this a lot more educational for those of us who aren't familiar with many materials. If something is unlabeled and you are positive on its ID, please label it!
Pictures are greatly appreciated, give us something to drool over while we wait!
5) This is not an appropriate place to swap good for bad. Please DO NOT DUMP YOUR DUDS HERE.
6) Please try to add an equal quantity to that of which you take. Don't be greedy, but also don't stuff the box so full that we'll have to worry about switching to a LFRB and thus cost members more than they expected.
Too much of even a good thing, is still too much!
7) Please don't take all of a material. If, for example, there are two chunks of Lapis Lazuli rough, feel free to take one, but leave the other for another member. If there is only one piece, feel free to claim it.
8) Once you've finished swapping, please CAREFULLY pack the materials into a new MFRB, use plenty of tape and get it mailed off to the next member quickly. You remember what it was like waiting?
9) Each member will pay the postage to send the box to the next waiting member, the box will be a Medium Flat Rate Box, so it will cost $15.05 to ship. This will include a free tracking number which can be found on the receipt. Please send that to the member that you addressed it to.
10) You may sign up for either box or both boxes, just know that you’ll need to pay separate shipping if you choose both. Please let me know your choice when you message me your contact information: Rough Rock Box and/or Slab Rock Box
If you feel you are able to hold to all the above rules and would like to participate, please MESSAGE ME Your Name, Address and which box (or boxes) you’re interested in. Please DO NOT post it here as it'll be more organized if I edit the post containing the participants information. If you sign up, only your Username will be listed here, if you have any issues with this please let me know in the message. I'll keep all of your personal information stored locally, securely.
After the signup period closes, I will send everyone the information of the member that they are supposed to mail the box to when they've finished. I will do so again when they receive the box and if the order changes for any reason. Once the box is received, I will delete the recipients information for both security and efficiency.
If the list fills for this round (15 members), anyone that wishes to join will automatically rollover to the next round. When the time comes, I will contact you and verify that you would still like to participate.
Thanks, everyone! Now, let's rock!
~Cody

Very interesting! I know heat treating flint is big, never thought about other material. Heat treating flight alters the colors and hardness. Knappers heat treat flint to make it easier/better to work as well. Maybe it alters the silica? Makes it ring almost like a bell.

Phew! Still working on the round 12 post. A lot of changes so I can’t just copy-paste-tweak! I’ll try to finish it up tonight though.
Thanks for the patience!

Still alive and well, made it into the apprenticeship program at work, very exciting, but also busy. Classes after work are eating up my time more than ever. I have a rough draft for Round 12 started and will have it up for signups by weeks end. Sorry everybody, I’d blame life, but the alternative is quite a lot more delaying. Thanks for poking me! fernwood and Tommy ! P.S. That was a really long dinner! xD

Alright, I'm on my phone so no telling how this will format, so please bear with me.
Based on the poll, most of the interest is in (Slabbing and Cabbing). (Tumbling and Slabbing rough) took a close second.
The idea is to break the current box into separate categories for the next round. No more slabs vs rough! Each gets their own box.
I'm at dinner, so I'll elaborate more later.

Please keep your eyes peeled here over the next few days, round 12 will begin soon, but it will be VERY VERY different. I've been talking to a few members and decided to take a few surveys and apply some feedback.
Check here for those surveys, your input will be greatly needed!

The Box has landed, I repeat, the Box has landed!
I've went through everything and have selected my first batch of keeps, I'll drool over them a bit, feel guilty, return most to the box, get greedy, take some back out... Give me a few days 😂

New participants are always welcome! This round is drawing to a close, as long as you fit the qualifications, you can sign up for round 12 when that opens. You can go to the first post here to see the rules/qualifications, they may change but they're a good baseline. geodehunters

Is it too late to get in on this round? I’d love to exchange some stock. Sadly yes, they're on their way to the second to last person now. But, I've got good news! Round 12 will be starting soon!

Sorry I haven't been very active, life has been more hectic than usual, had some family in the hospital these past few weeks. Thankfully I'm off work this entire next week and things also appear to be settling down. Now to catch up on chores, yard work and everything else that's been piling up lol.
