Hello again, seems like its been forever. I finally had ambition and time at the same moment and fired up the grinder. One new tap handle, and a good handful of cabs finished up. some of the cabs had been on the dops for more than a year, and survived moving. it felt good to get them done. the tap handle from the local brecciated basalt, roughly 130mm tall IMG20220904092532 by nik1924, on Flickr Picasso marble and a little ruby, the Picasso was originally for one of the cab contests, but gave me a little trouble with spalling on the finer wheels, roughly 70 x 40 mm IMG20220829204505 by nik1924, on Flickr two slices of a small royal imperial nodule IMG20220829204246 by nik1924, on Flickr And Wascoite, from The Dales Oregon, near the biggs formation IMG20220829204454 by nik1924, on Flickr

Thanks, it felt great to get back to the grinder, enough so that I'm headed out there again today to get the blanks for a few more handles roughed in. Pictures to follow of course...

It's been awhile for me, too. I hope to get some in before it gets cold again.
Your cabs are great! That Picasso is super nice, but I like the Wascoite, too. ... and the tap and, of course, the RIJ. They got it going on!
How high is that ruby dome?

Welcome back, nik! It has been FOREVER since you posted last. Love that tap handle! It may be my favorite so far that you've done. All the cabs are beauties, too, but yeah, the Wascoite is da bomb!

Thanks everybody. As promised, all but one of the tap handle blanks to complete the series. The 10 inch saw and 30 grit wheel got a good workout today. from left to right; sodalite, snowflake obsidian, birdseye rhyolite, tiger eye, stratus jasper (seller's name), noreena jasper, and some random metamorphosed river rock from Oregon IMG20220919132812 by nik1924, on Flickr

Really nice nik, but I have to ask "tap handles" ? Must be something you explained before & I missed or was before I joined ?
That Wascoite is a beauty.

Glad to see you posting again.
Your tap handles are great. I would be in awe to serve a beer with one of those.

It seems tap handles are a thing that people are very familiar with, or not at all. Two types, two vastly different uses:

Beer keg tap handles. See this thread for the ones nik has completed so far.

Thank you rockpickerforever & hummingbirdstones . When Beth mentioned beer it came to me, as you were right Jean, I thought of a machinist tap, which had me wondering.
Guess it's obvious I'm not a big beer drinker or pub visitor Patty

Guess it's obvious I'm not a big beer drinker or pub visitor Patty You're welcome, Patty, lol. Beer taps are something I'm not around often, either. I don't frequent bars, I don't even drink beer from the store at home! My husband was a machinist most of his working days (retired now). First a manual machinist, in later days, a CNC machinist. There are probably about 20 tap handles in the garage (I've used them many times!). Good to see you again , nik. Have missed seeing your projects.

Thanks again everybody. This has been a fun project for the past few years, although interspersed with bouts of procrastination, and interruptions of work and life responsibilities, the end is in sight. I think there will be around 20 in the set when all is said and done.
The dome on the little ruby is pretty high, almost round.

Very nice nikLooks like you get lots of stuff from Oregon. Was the wascoite mined, or surface picked? Are you from Oregon and if so where? I'm in Hillsboro. markb
