A few days ago, I had never heard of Prairie Agate. Now, thanks to jasoninsd and a USPS worker with Star Trek teleportation technology…4 days later I’m sitting here looking into a Medium Weight Freight box full of beautiful prairie agates, some unlike any rock I’ve seen before! There are a few that look similar to the banded chert we find here in San Antonio, but others look like a combination of white and lite blue chalcedony, some with agate banding, and are just beautiful!! My wife is particularly happy as these are her favorite style of rock. I put a dozen in the rebel 17 Tumbler with a bunch of other rocks and can’t wait to see how they come out! Again, jasoninsd , thank you so much! I really appreciate you sending these to us. You have made an entire household smile this beautiful weekend!

That is some very nice looking rough. Nice color and banding. When you cut it, I presume you are going to cut, please show us some more photo's. Same for, as you progress to the finish.

Jim I will definitely cut out some of them, just not sure which ones yet. For right now I threw a dozen of them in the big tumbler. Yup, I will keep the pictures coming as things progress. Thank you!

I love prairie agates!! I just got some for tumbling and they come out really nice! Enjoy them! I think they are easy to tumble too - the rough I got wasn't too pitted or anything like you'll see with other agates (I'm looking at you crazy lace!!)

Do you have any pictures? Maybe before and after? Yes, crazy laze can be a pain, as many agates can be) but is so worth it at the same time.

I never figured out how to post pictures on here, gumbo_agate_tumbler on Instagram. I’ll repost some prairies and bubble gums this afternoon, won’t have to look through the hundreds of pics to see em.

They are always fun to see how the different rocks turn out - like opening a Christmas gift It really does, it also adds some special moments to our days. It’s now become habit, whenever a set of rocks have finished a particular tumbling course, the wife and I sit down and look carefully through them all. Sometimes we will take pictures so that we can remember them from one course to the next. Mostly, we just enjoy looking at them and calling to mind where we found that one or what we were doing when we found this one. It’s a nice feeling when so many finds and creations become part of our story.
