I like others are fascinated by the prairie agates Jason sent me. Here is an odd one. It wasn't very large but I sawed it and got two end pieces and one middle slab. I was amazed by the change from outside to inside. First pic is the outside, second is the middle slice and then a closeup. My first batch of tumbled PAs is still mostly in coarse grit with a few ready for 220. I will get them done for pics one of these years. Ha Ha. Chris

These are currently in the vibe, stage 3 with the pre-polish stage coming up soon. I’ll try cutting some of the smaller ones next time as these just about killed my neck.

So, please excuse the inexperienced question, but why not just tumble polish the big rock in the Rebel? No worries. It’s not just the sheer size of the thing (would take a long time to build up enough rocks for a polish cycle), but it also has a high speed 40rpm motor for grinding down rocks in the course stage, which would causing bruising and issues during stages 2-polish. Is 40 rpm the rpm for the slow-speed Rebel 17? Is that the model you have? I'm thinking about upsizing to the slow speed Rebel, but I'm not too sure about it...

Technically it’s intended for tumbling brass cartridges and other metal stuff. The rock Tumbler motor is 20 rpm. I love my rebel, but you have to have a lot of rock to even think about loading it. We do a lot of self collecting and and am constantly finding larger rocks that I want to see what’s inside, so it works for us.

I have a bunch of beach rock finds that are piling up that my 33B can't keep up with. I would love to get a larger tumbler, but know it comes with the added expense of using MUCH more grit, especially the stage 1 stuff. The Rebel 17 probably needs at least a cup of stage 1 grit per load, right?

I recycle about 2/3rds the slurry each time also (unless it’s real stinky) and reuse it. I get my grit from either Kingsley north or the rock shed. Someday I plan to do an experiment where I load it with rough Texas rock (as I normally would) and let it run for a couple weeks, sans grit. Im curious to see the difference between using grit or not. I imagine it’s fairy drastic.

The description says crushed, so I think your broken-up assessment is probably right. I’ll post when I get them.

Not sure if you can cancel the order but even if you can’t…I have enough that I can happily send you some whole ones. Should be able to do a few smalls, couple mediums and a big one. Jason really took care of me when he sent me these. I already gave some to Dillon and I have enough to share a few more. Shoot me a message with your address. It’ll take me a week because I’m still moving slow post surgeries, but I’ll get them to you. I’ll include some local Texas finds as well, enough to fill a small or medium box.

Again, please be patient with me. I seem to be feeling better, but I’m still having days that I can’t get out of bed. Seems like for every one day that I do things I am completely down for two days recovering, and I’m at the pool with the kid this afternoon so I don’t know how Ill feel the rest of the week. I have petrified wood, banded chert, Jasper and weird Texas jasp-agates that I’ll include also.
