Hi there, I'd love some guidance on what items to look for that might make a good tumbler barrel. I'm looking to build my own rock tumbler. I just purchased a few motors, so I'd like to start with the tumbling barrel. My current rock tumbler is a Thumbler's Model B. It has a neoprene lining so its very quiet. rocktumbler.com/thumlers/model-b.shtml I don't think a DIY one will be that quiet, right?

I have made several out of the gray electrical conduit PVC pipe with industrial plastic ends. Normally make 1 gallon capacity {about 12 pound} which are 6" diameter and 10 1/2" long. They run pretty quiet, and a friend I made some for says he gets a better finish than with his commercial rubber lined barrels. Detailed information at your request.

I’d love to understand how you make these as well. If there’s anyway that you could post some links to the materials that you use, or even just pictures of what they look like, I will greatly appreciate it! Many thanks.

My way of building tumbler barrels, different than jamesp method because of differing material availability and cost. Lids on these barrels need to be tightened only hand tight with a nut driver. Spray studs with WD-40 after each use. Build tumbler barrels before building the rolling frame so you know you have it right.
