My favorite part. What gets taken, what gets added.

Okay, I took quite a bit out. I thought I was getting greedy and taking too much, but then when I was packing it up I couldn't fit everything in. I ended up keeping the chunk of Gary green Jasper that I wasn't planning on. I just couldn't make it fit. If anyone really wanted some of that, get a hold of me and I can probably send you a slice. The only reason I say probably is because there's only a few slices. I think at the most I'll get 3 slabs and a fat end cut. Here's what I took out. Tiger Iron, Holly Blue, Vistaite Hells Canyon, Wingate Plume, BC Ocean, Willow Creek Berber Agate, Fordite, Amethyst, Misc Agates, Chinese Pet Wood Polished pet wood, unknown, Bat Cave. The Gary Green Chunk that wouldn't fit. Morrinosite, Neydegger Plume, Biggs, Pinolith Here's what I put in. Unknown Lace, Hornitos Poppy Jasper, Polish Flint, Flor de Durazno(Flower of Peach agate) Hornitos Poppy, Old Stock Crazy Lace Agate Purple stuff from Burro Creek, S Cadys Jasper, Plasma Agate Bumblebee Jasper, Mariposite, Pastelite Pastelite, Triflow Goldsheen Obsidian. Fordite Stuffed! It should be on its way tomorrow to Chris1956.

Very nice additions! Curious, what are the mostly black pieces just before your end box picture?

Pat it's Fordite. I was editing when you posted. All the names (that I know) are there now.

Had never heard of Hungarian Agate until I saw the nice slab that Robin put in the box. It was very tempting but I thought I had taken more than my share already. Now all of a sudden, there's several pieces of rough for sale on Facebook. Pretty stuff but at about $80 a lb I'll probably skip it!
BTW, I apparently took 1 more slab out than earlier reported. I found the piece of surfite on my workbench this afternoon.

rockbrain jasoninsd hummingbirdstones I’ve found with the Hells Canyon petrified wood it seems the lighter colored wood is a bit more stable than the dark. I think you can pretty much use the entirety of the light slabs. For some reason the dark ones that I’ve worked are more crumbly. I will actually kind of test them and try to break the slabs by hand prior to marking out a cab. Also, they will absorb water and then after the cab is complete they’ll dry out and lighten up. I hope you’ll be able to get some nice cabs out of those pieces.

I can’t wait for the next box to start so I can join in, too! 😁 should have enough things identified by then to participate… or just throw in nice things that I’m not sure about and see how other people react!

Im thinking about starting one. Want to do a theme though. Maybe do two different boxes. One as a high stakes gambler. Meaning all slabs that are rare/expensive material, then another for normal/common material for those that don’t have the collections/materials as others.

realrockhound I’ve already been to eliminated! I haven’t really started figuring out what I have yet, much less have any clue how rare/valuable any of it is. I’ve learned to add “old stock” to all of my searches, at least! When it comes to judging if it’s a quality piece… I’m clueless. This guy obviously bought whatever he liked and tossed it in a box, but I don’t know if he bought good pieces or great deals… knowing me, I would add a super rare piece to a common box or an unworkable piece to the rare box =P

Oh! Instead of common and expensive… how about local (mined within 60mi) and collector’s edition (things people go out of their way to find nice specimens of). The local one would be cheaper for anyone that participates, whether they collect gravel for tumbling or hit up their local store for rough. Collectors edition would be the ooh and ahh pieces rather than just things that cost more?

I’d put some stipulations on it. Might get some people that want to to it, might get none at all. Would probably need to set up a poll to see if anyone is down to part with some nice stuff in exchange for other nice stuff.

I have a US skybox address. This would qualify me?

I have a US skybox address. This would qualify me? I think the major problem is the double shipping cost you would need to pay, and the time it takes to receive the box and mail the box out to the next recipient.
