They're all such neat photos! But, the butterfly story brought tears to my eyes. What a thoughtful, sweet thing to do! Rob, I had to show your pics to my husband. He just bought a new telecsope today - a celestron, C8N . I'm hoping to be able to hook my digital camera up to it someday. I think we have to get an attachment. I think he ordered it from a shop down your way - Island Eyepiece. Have you heard of them? Here are my two pics - I'm gonna stick with rocks in the wild...

Hey Shelby, tell hubby congrats on the scope purchase! The C8 is a popular higher end model, just hope you can find clear dark skies to get good use of it. As a matter of fact, I know Brian at Island eyepiece quite well. He is a great guy & will always try to suggest what will work best for your needs, not just try to sell you the more expensive stuff. I've probably unloaded a couple G's on him over the years. If you want to use your digital camera on the scope, you will probably end up with a custom T-ring adapter or a 1/4-20 slide mount to hold it over the eyepiece. If you guys have any questions about it don't hesitate to give me a shout and I'll offer the best advice & info I can. Have fun!

Nice pics - pics are the best part of the board I reckon. Anyways - I cant join in a competition as its too much to post rocks over the pond - but I thought I'd share these with you all. The history behind it is that my dad planted a tree in my garden (well a bush) but he calls it the butterfly tree. I cant remember the real name of it. Each year it gets cut right back down to about 3 feet high - then it grows again. Lo and behold when it grows and flowers it attracts loads of butterflies - you wouldnt normally see so many - maybe one or two per year - but this tree has at least ten on it at any given time. So here they are - taken yesterday. Its hard to catch them with their wings open - normally when they are getting the nectar they have their wings closed. I couldnt decide which were the best two so I thought Id post all four as they arent part of the competition. 4.2 megapixel fuji finepix camera with the macro switched on and the flash forced on for all pics even though its sunny.

Cool pix, Mark. Especially #3 -- looks like a spooky face... I don't think we have any butterflies here that even remotely resemble those.

Wow Cher, nice photos! You have potential girl Mark, I've heard of those "butterfly" bushes before, I beleive they are attracted to them because the flowers appear very bright to them in the ultraviolet spectrum. To us they just look like normal purply white flowers but to the bees & butterflies they are like glowing beacons of ultraviolet that attract them to it.

As for shipping prizes, I say:
Enter the contest. If you win, you can always give the prize to a cabber for their use and let them send you a thankyou cab or two. Shipping on a few cabs is not too much.

Thanks Rob, you wouldn't believe what I went through to get that pic of the eclipse. Digital zoom is great, but is better on a tripod. I was balancing my camera on the back of my pickup. The pic of the tigers was taken through a window so I was pretty please with outcome on that one.
Mark is that actually a butterfly or is it a moth?

I'm new here and found this thread yesterday and thought I might as well throw in one of my pictures. This is actually some pics I took near Los Angeles a couple of years ago, scanned them, and then had them framed in this grouping as seen. All were taken with a Nikon N90 using Fuji 400 film.

OK, I've been a little too busy to post my own, so here's a few.... I haven't done anything w/ my pictures w/ Photoshop or any other software....I guess, what you see is what you get. Need to learn how to use that stuff someday. Here's Chloe w/ some wild hair.....While jumping on the tramp, she got a serious case of static cling. I hurried off for the camera and got this shot..... This one was taken 2 years ago in my backyard...Rainey,Chloe,Dillon Here's my little guy Maddux and gorgeous wife mere seconds after coming out of "polish".....LOL Here he is in "burnish" Little Chlo before heading to dance...TITLE..."Through a Little Girls Eyes".... Some Irises in my front yard taken the night before Mother's Day. The flowers were actually in the dark, but the sun was shining off the windows of the house across the street illuminating the flowers. This is just a quick smattering of photos I pulled off my Photobucket account. I'll post more soon. *** KEEP 'EM COMING ***Gaetz

this is one of my fav's--- a little background of it first ---- couple years ago there was a motherless fawn that lived here at the house --stayed in the woods but could call her "in" when it was time to eat ( morning and evening)-- she and the real "snowdog" became best of friends and played together ---after getting done eating ( drinking milk) she would nibble a little grass --if she took too long, and snowdog was wanting to play "chase" he would put his paw on her shoulder and push her -- trying to get her to run so he could chase her --- she liked this game as she could run about three times as fast as him ---she would make a big loop with him trying to catch-up, he would still be in the neighbors yard and she would come back and stand next to me --when he did finally get back she would go again ---- other times if snowdog wasn't ready to play (just laying down )she would come over , jump up and down then use her head to butt him --- trying to get him up to play ------- "friends" can cross alot of boundries !!---- oh, one other thing , she taught him how to eat "leaf salad" too!! ;D
