Well, with so many people posting pictures of their rock hounding trips/scenery etc, I thought it would be fun to sponsor a little photography contest. Winner gets a full, side-splitting, tape-busting, back-breaking, stuffed to the brim, USPS flat rater. If you have a bad back or any other ailments that prohibit you from doing strenuous activities like picking it off the portch, let me know, I don't want to be sued. If the winner is outside the US, well, then, we'll have to make other arrangements.
Rules..........
1- Photos must be submitted by October 31st, 2006
2- Details must be attached...ie....where, when, etc.
3- You can submit pictures already posted this calendar year.
4- Photo subjects may vary.... ie ....scenery, family members, rocks, animals, etc.
5- Photos must be taken by RTH member or their rockhound buddies....of an RTH member.
6- No children or animals can be harmed while taking pictures (Randy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
7- I will not go thru each post looking for the best pictures. If any of you see a picture you like, then PM it to me and I'll put it in this thread for future voting.
8- Please keep in mind that if you delete your photos from Photobucket in the next few months, your photo will be gone and, therefore, not eligible for the finals.
9- I'm eligible too you know!!!! LOL
I question members of this board (and especially you Mark) where would you like this put (Photos, General, Life and Univ???) and does it deserve a "sticky?"
I hope this is fun for everyone as it seems people like to show their travels/experiences and we seem to enjoy looking at them too, I know I do.
I'm sure I'll have further rules but for now start submitting your favs so far.

Okay, here's my entry. If you start another thread with the contest photos, I'll move it over there. This is a small waterfall in Yosemite National Park alongside one of the parks roads. This photo was taken May 23, 2006

Weevers Needle~Supersitition Mountains. I took this photo at the top of the over look when hiking Peralta Trail. Your looking North towards the Lower Salt River Valley and The Western egde of the Four Peaks Wilderness. Ive camped down below Weevers needle form this view point. If you follow the canyon north, keeping the needle on your right. The Lost Dutchman Trail hooks up and takes you back out on the north side of the Supersitition wilderness, near the Apache Trail. YOu can barley make out the hiking trail in the lower canyon. It about 12 miles from the South end to the North end of the Wilderness this way. But talk about views.

[glow=blue,3,300]Lunar Gem[/glow][/color] Type: Astroscenic Subject: Lunar pairing with Pleades star cluster and arboreal silhoette Date: April 21st, 2004 at aprox. 9:45pm PDT Location: Triangle Mountain, Victoria B.C. Canada N48º 25' W123º 30' Equipment: Tripod mounted Canon G5 Digital 5.0MP SFL camera, linear polarizing filter. Settings: 4 second exposure at F5.0, ISO 50, 7x optical zoom @ inf. Processing: *Auto WB, *auto darkframe, *CCDRAW to JPEG, crop, resize, gamma enhance, *color saturation, black cut-off Software: *camera firmware, ACDsee 4.1 Special effect: natural lunar earthshine effect, size/distance/proximity proportional optical illusion Comments: This was a fun shot to set up for but it was a tricky one to pull off! I had to line myself up with where the moon was going to be by the time I was ready to take the shot. I actually wanted to "trap the moon" inside the flame shaped space in the branches below but the proper physical perspective could not be achieved due to ground elevation. This was the best of three attempts I made that night to capture the pairing of the Moon and the Pleades cluster. They were much closer the previous night but like usual when there is a time critical astronomical event going on, it was too cloudy here to see anything in the heavens. More to come...

[glow=orange,3,300]2004 Total Lunar Eclipse[/glow][/color] Type: Guided Afocal Astronomical Subject: Total lunar eclipse Date: October 27th, 2004 at 8:43pm PDT Location: Victoria B.C. Canada N48º 25' W123º 30' Equipment: Afocally mounted Canon G5 Digital 5.0MP SFL camera Celestron C114GT sidereal clock drive Alt-Az mount, 114mmx1000mm Newtonian reflector. Fitted with: 25mm Plossl eyepiece, linear polarizing filter, custom T-ring adapter. Settings: 1.3 second exposure, F2.0, ISO 50, 2x optical zoom @ inf. Processing: *Auto WB, *CCDRAW to JPEG, * auto dark frame, crop, resize, gamma enhance, *color saturation, black cut-off Software: *camera firmware, ACDsee 4.1 Special effect: natural gradient illumination, perceived enhancement of 3D lunar surface. Comments: What photographer can resist a total lunar eclipse?! This is just one of a series of shots I took during the night of the October 2004 eclipse. The image is in full natural color, it REALLY looked the way it does in the photo. The only processing I do is reframing the subject and attempting to "restore" the natural look of the subject and the odd tweak of this or that again to make it look more natural. My motto is if I can't get the shot I want with the equipment I should be learning more about taking the shots instead of messing around with software to try and "fix" it. Oh BTW, this is just the beginning! These are only some of my better space themed shots... There's still plenty more where that came from and then some. ;D You've opened a real can of worms now Gaeter!

LCARS - your images are not showing here for me at the mo - probably just down or something - or another act of god on my PC.
Yeah I reckon a sticky is cool for this Gaetz - and as its pics then the pics section is good for me - if you want to move it to another tho let me or Sands know.
Sands can move it if you want to - no problemo.
I'll sticky it here now though.
