HA HA takila. Our Jack mix has to be on a "clothesline" as well. He has a 50 foot cable with a chain attached to a pulley. Talk about ADHD...........he broke one of the pulleys in 4 days because he ran back and forth so many times. We dont have a fenced yard but we do live off of two dead end streets. Im always afraid something will happen to him so he stays on his cable run when we cant watch him at all times. He obeys pretty well..........until he sees one of our cats and then he's GONE.

Shannon,
That's funny.........I'm glad I'm not the only one that keeps their's on a clothesline! LOL! Sadie WAS on it this last week. When I looked out to check on her, she was running around the yard. Somehow, she broke the plastic clip on her collar. I guess I'm going to have to get her a collar with a metal buckle on it. She only had that collar since February!
Earthdog keeps joking (though I think he's serious sometimes) that we need to contact the Vet and see if they have "Ritalin" for dogs! I keep telling him that once Sadie (the ADHD JRT) get's another year older, she'll calm down a little. This weekend, after one of her running around the yard episodes, I brought her in and she figured out what a fan is for! She was pretty hot and panting hard. Earthdog and I were sitting in the living room watching TV and the box fan is sitting on the floor. She went and stood in front of it several times to cool off! It was hilarious! Even though she can be a pain in the rear (when you can't catch her or using the floor as her toilet) she is very smart and funny!

I hate to tell you but I have groomed MANY JRT's that were over 10 years of age and they were no better than when they were pups! In fact, they got worse as they aged because of senility.
I was telling one of my grooming customers about having to keep Buckshot on a "clothesline". She said that was nothing. When her son was little, he was a demon (her exact words). She got tired of him running out of the yard so she attached a rope to his suspenders and the other end to the clothesline. The next time she looked out the window, the pants were flying in the wind, still attached to the clothesline and her son was running down the road naked!
Yes, my Buckshot is a pain in the rear also (Im being nice and keeping my mouth clean for the forum) but I love him dearly and wouldnt trade him for anything. I dont think his brain is ever going to advance though. Just the other day he went tearing across the yard at high speeds chasing our cat. Our cat Zappa calmly stopped running and Buckshot kept going.........head first into my husband's truck lol. He is also famous for trying to run into the house when the sliding glass door is shut. He must be going 30 miles per hour when he hits that glass door. He wobbles away for a minute, shakes his head and then takes off again.

Our JRT, Taz, has the same traits. He has calmed down 50% now that he is 6, but his early years, OMG!!! It's amazing he lived to see 6! He still gets mighty crazy, but all in all, he has calmed down. When we first moved into our house, he was about 6 months old. The first 20 minutes in the house, no furniture yet or anything, he pooped in the living room, ran through the screen enclosure, and fell into the pool! I could've killed him on the spot! LOL I love him to death and would never hurt him, but there has been days... LOL. Tonja ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Sadie is may be close to 2 years old, so we've got aways to go sounds like! Our other female, Lacy, is 4 years old now. She's pretty mellow, in fact. She can stay up with Sadie when needed, but she prefers to stay by us most of the time. We got Lacy as a puppy, so she's perfectly housetrained. We had to go out of town for a funeral at the last minute (for the weekend), so we decided to keep her down in the back hallway that leads down to the basement. We layed out newspaper so she could go potty down there. But she is SO housetrained that she didn't go for 2 days! We felt bad, but we were kind of stuck and we didn't want to leave her outside. Sadie, on the otherhand, has no problems going where ever she wants to when she wants to! Obviously, her previous owners didn't train her. And she always seems to go when we're not looking! She is full of energy to say the least. It does amaze me when she does decide to lay down on my lap! I mentioned her figuring out that the fan cools her off, well, yesterday, I caught her standing in front of the heating vent cooling herself off on our central air! Too funny!

Sounds like there should maybe be a support group for people with dogs that are a little...unbalanced...? We've got two border collies - one is sooo mellow you wouldn't hardly know he's a border collie (our little surfer boy - very laid back - always has the munchies) but the other. The Other. Holy cow. She's stark raving mad. That's all you can say about her. Two speeds - Full and Asleep. Nothing in between. Demon, hooligan, banshee, terror, lunatic - we've used them all to describe her. Nonstop, OCD, workaholic freak. Wouldn't trade her for the world. ;D Doggy Valium has crossed our minds however.

Your border collie is just like my little Buckshot. Lay down? He doesnt know what that means unless there is a cookie involved. After the cookie is gone, so is he. "Stark raving mad". I like that one. Buckshot has many nicknames and he comes to all of them........ding dong, dumb dumb, numb nuts. I LOVE this dog but yeah, Valium has crossed my mind too. Im not saying his habits are his fault. Obviously Ive allowed them to get to this point but his genetics definitely play a part. He knows commands and he does obey them.......briefly until his ADHD kicks in and then he forgets what the command even was. By the way.....here's my boy: ![](http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w195/weeshan/IMG_0820.jpg) JRT/Mini Aussie cross. 25 lbs. We should get all of our mentally challenged dogs together at a park. Wouldnt that be.......uhhhh........interesting? Shannon
