Everybody please speak up! Rodney and I are thinking about having a raffle during the November Burro Creek trip and I want to hear everyone's opinion. Right now he is working on a cabbing machine, he is converting it to a gas powered cabbing machine so we can take it to Burro Creek or anywhere for that matter since it runs on gas.
He thinks we should sell raffle tickets and give the gas powered cabbing machine away as the prize, what do you all think about that?
If we do raffle it off, tickets will be offered to all RTH-ers and not just the people coming for the November rockhounding trip. Heres the deal though, the winner will have to take care of the shipping. There will also be some runner up prizes, a trim saw, a flat rate box of material and some slabs. If we do this, we will be holding the drawing and calling the winners during the November trip. If you are not here for the fall trip, you would be notified as soon as we returned home.
We want to hear what you all think about this idea now.
Thanks.

I forgot to mention the price for the raffle tickets, They would be $1 each and there would be a limit of 5 tickets per person so for a couple of bucks each person has a chance to walk away with a $400-$500 cabbing machine. I think anyone would be tickled with the trim saw too. I will post pictures of the two pieces of equipment within the next week or so. Thanks.

We want to hear what you all think about this idea now. Thanks. What do I think? I think I'd buy as many as I can. Oh that's only five? YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING? Somebody is going to get a cabbing machine, a field worthy one no less- for FIVE BUCKS!!! ? Either raise the price or allow people to buy more, maybe up to 10 or even 20 tickets, I know I would buy that many. I only say that because my luck is terrible on "drawing/raffle" things, five tickets in the pot just doesn't seem likely to work for me.

Count me in on money for food. I don't think I will have much time for trip planning with the move. My camping stuff is in crates so they will be easy to get to. Jamie, I may need someone to pick me up in Mesa. I think my Uncle will need the car for the week. This will be so much fun! I am looking forward to meeting everyone. This is the cherry on top of the 'move back to Phoenix' ice cream!!

CAR RENTERS!!!!
I will need a car rental as well. Ed, Steve and others, do you want to split the cost and I'll wait for you guys at the airport? That would help me outwith finances.
The catch for me is that I am flying back on Monday the 5th, so would either need to return the car then, or get a lift back in on time. Lemme know if that works.
If not, no worries. Jeff

Hey Jeff. I haven't worked out all the details yet, but I know Steve is trying to rent a jeep, or some kind of 4WD. One of us will have a solution, I'm sure.

Steve, rent a truck, its much more efficient. You can't haul very many rocks in a jeep, or people. You really don't need a 4x4, a 2 wheel drive truck is just as good.
If you all have time, check my last post in the general section about the raffle, I talked to Diamond Pacific Tool today about donating some prizes for the raffle, I will know more tomorrow. Everybody, keep your fingers crossed.

Here is some information for anyone that is planning on coming but would prefer to stay in a hotel. Wikieup, which is only 16 miles from Burro Creek Campground has a small hotel with three rooms available. The price for a room there is $40 per night for 1 person, $45 for 2 and $50 for three people. The hotel has a room with 2 twin beds in it, 1 room with a full sized bed in it and 1 room with 2 twin beds and 1 full sized bed.
She said the price is the same for any room you would prefer they are all $40 per night, for each additional person the price goes up $5.
The lady I spoke to (Jane) said that if you want to be sure you will get a room, you need to reserve it within the next week or so because as hunting season approaches the rooms will not be available, she said they fill up fast and are usually all booked by the middle of October for the month of November and the month of December.
Also, I did a little searching for rental cars today and found out that the best rates were through carrentals.com and Hotwire.com. Hotwire had some great last minute deals, most of the rates I looked at that were booked less than 3 days in advance were only $13.95 per day for an economy car, Dodge Caliber or similar. And, the rental agencies that were a few miles from the airport were on the average $4 to $11 dollars cheaper per day for the same car they rent at the airport. I am going to get some of the addresses of the rental agencies and post them here, it would be well worth the time and money to rent a car through an agency that is not located at Sky Harbor Intl and some of the rental agencies are only 3, 4 and 5 miles away from Sky Harbor so a short taxi ride or shuttle ride could save you as much as $75. We will be picking people up at the airport also, for those of you that don't plan to rent a car.

What kind of temps are we to expect? Cold at night warm during the day? 0-30-50-70 ish? Just trying to figure out which tent or tents to pack and which bags to bring.

If its anything like last year, expect daytime highs in the 70-80F range, overnight probably expect to see if drop down into the 40's. I would guess being only 200 ft or so in elevation that freezing is unlikely, although not unheard of the first week of Nov.
Last year there wasn't any rain that week, not really many clouds to speak of as I recall, only a thin high overcast- although at that time of year almost anything can happen in the desert...

Okay, you might need to take me off the list. There's a possibility I'm changing jobs soon, and won't have any vacation built up yet. If it doesn't happen, I'll let y'all know!
