I decided to look through this post again and I am dam near tears.
This tumble (Rollingstone) just takes my breathe away.
It is tumbles like this that raise that bar for me higher and all I can do is try. One day ....
As I look through this post I see the Peridot and Pet Palm Wood (you mean there are more pictures below???) are amazing!!!!
As always!
(wanders off looking through the rest of the pictures in the post)

Attention all newbies! Yes you can! It will take some time to reach the beautiful heights that Rollingstone has achieved. Follow his recipes and practice, practice, practice. Practice on regular rocks, such as beach or river rocks. And get a good feel for your machine(s). Learn to listen for changes in the sound of the tumbling stones and they will tell you themselves when they need another charge or when they're ready to move to the next grit. Can't say enough about using plastic beads in the final stages,(from 'fine' or 'pre-polish' on. Even during 'burnish' stage). You don't want to go all that way and then have em crackin' into each other during 'polish'. Very true. The most difficult ingredient of rock tumbling is time. Also: trying "recipes" is difficult unless you have the same exact tumbler. Mine's a huge 15-pounder and the recipe posted for a 6-pounder doesn't really work with a significant barrel size difference, imho. All you can do is try!

OK...so you all couldn't just leave this alone?! I hadn't seen this and wish I hadn't! YIKES!!! I'm just trying to learn how to cab and slab and take macro pics on my camera...I don't need another addiction! I can't stop looking at these and now I want to tumble too! When is there time for my day job?

Just saw this, fantastic work Don, and thank you for sharing your process!
I am just starting out. Looking forward to seeing what I can come up with, but I have never seen stones like those. Amazing.

Beautiful! i get my tumbler tomorrow, so i'm going to experiment with my beach rocks, see which ones work and which don't. I have many hard true jaspers and also some softer ones which might just end up being worn way... but all you can do is try, see what happens and learn from your mistakes.

I am not sure if I am inspired or depressed. Really amazing tumbles. Mine look like rocks...back to the tumbler, again. I keep turning pretty rocks into little piles of grey sand lol. Someday...the shine will be mine!

After seeing the colors on these rocks I felt like I was back in school taking notes for a big test. I just bought a tumbler, rocks from ebay and can't wait to get the barrels rolling. Seeing this thread really inspired me. Looks like Jasper is on the top of my got to have list, at least for now. This is my first post.

These tumbles are inspirational, especially for a newbie like myself. Someday maybe I'll get to that point!

Nice Don! I have a question regarding your recipe. I'm stumped on this statement: "With amethyst, I found that 1/3 of the amethyst was ready after 3 weeks, another 1/3 was ready after 5 weeks, and the other 1/3 still needed additional tumbling. Jaspers seem faster, agates seem slower. Agates can take 8-12 weeks, depending on type and size."
Are you course grinding agates for 8-12 weeks? Using the recharge method for about a week, then recharging for 8-12 weeks seems like an awful lot of grit. Just want to make sure I'm off to the right start. Thanks!
