For those of you who are first viewing this thread, I originally listed a bunch of links to tumbles by a former member who has since removed his photos from photobucket. So please ignore the comments about James.
What counts now is that an expert tumbler has posted some of his awesome tumbles on this thread. If you want inspiration in your tumbles, please check out Don's fantastic tumbled stones. Thanks Don for posting your photos here.

No pretty pictures in here anymore it seems, so let me post some old ones. I've completely restructured my photobucket account to organize everything by year, so all my old links in RTH are probably broken. But going over some old pics, here's some tumbles from 2005 and 2006... -Don This is agatized red horn coral: This of course is Arizona petrified wood (rainbow wood): Carrasite jasper: Wildhorse picture jasper: Flint ridge flint: Canadian river plume agate? (not sure) Tahoma agate (jasper?), from the Pacific NW: That's enough for one post!

Hey Don - can you find your pics of the OJ tumble? That's one of my top favorites of yours.

Oops, found a few more 2005 photos of some Brazilian agate tumbles hiding in my default photobucket album (now moved to my 2005 album). Anyway, I'll add them here as they show how tumbing can work its magic. From this rough: To these tumbled stones: And from this rough: To these tumbled stones: As a footnote, I'm really surprised at how few Brazilian agate pics I've seen on this board over the years. The stuff is plentiful and cheap and takes a fantastic shine. Maybe it's because the rough tends to be large and must be broken up before tumbling, which is a lot of work and means you are starting with really rough stuff like in these photos? (I broke this rough up myself with a hammer and chisel.) Who knows, but it does seem to be the "ignored" tumbling material. -Don

A selection from 2007.... Imperial jasper: A big chunk of Stone Canyon jasper, tumbled with the garnets in the photos below. The pea-sized garnets balanced out the palm-sized piece of jasper, and tumbler barrels alway like balance. ;D Someone named this the "Earth Heart" -- me like! Garnets (originally from India I believe, but in this case from Ron's Rocks): In the rough: After tumbling: Turritella agate. This material is really variable and can have lots of soft spots. I hand-picked some nice rough from a rock shop in Arizona, while on vacation there:

Don:) These and the other pictures you have shown us are the most fantastical, beautifully tumbling stones I have ever seen. What in the world do you do with all these? They are magic and you are Merlin:)

A most flattered thank-you, Moondragon! What do I do with my tumbles?... some are given away, some become gifts or are made into Christmas ornaments, some are thrown onto local playgrounds or near local elementary schools for kids to find, but the majority end up in big glass jars for show in our home. I keep telling myself that someday I'll organize them better, but it sure is easy to just toss them in a huge glass urn, to be dealt with later!

You will be hearing from my lawyer since I was nearly blinded by the shine on those stones! Absolutely beautiful! I can just imagine the kids on the playground finding one of those "special" rocks! What a delightful thing to do.
