Hi, everyone! Here's a contest, a sort of "guess the weight". I polished a pet wood on some of its natural surfaces. Here's the "before" picture: And here is the "after" picture (cell phone pic): Another pic: What you know: The difference between the weight of the pet wood before and after polishing is 29 grams.
Your task: Guess the SUM of the weights of the rock before and after polishing.***************** Example: You think the rock weighed 2029 grams "before". This means the "after" weight is 2000 grams (the 29 grams difference is known). Your final answer should be 4029.***************** Hint #1: Before being polished, this pet wood weighed somewhere between one and two pounds; and it does the same after being polished.
Hint #2: 1 pound = 453.6 grams 1 oz = 28.35 grams
Hint#3 (quote from a post of mine in this contest): "RogueTrader, I'm impressed how your judgement lead you to a result not very far from truth (+/-200 grams)! (And you can be sure this was the LAST hint in this contest )"
*********** Check out page 4 for a quick "contest in contest"!
****************** The weight should be in whole grams, no decimals. The prize is this piece of pet wood. UPDATE: if the winner guesses the EXACT sum, the cab posted in page 4 is also part of the prize! ;DThe first one who guesses the exact sum wins it, if no one guesses it during two weeks the closest guess wins it, no matter it's more or less. Feel free to change your guess as many times you wish, only the last one will be valid for each competitor. Maybe I will add some hints later, but do not expect many of them. I want to leave this one more to your inspiration and luck. Good luck to all! Adrian

Ladies, Ladies! Please READ the text below the pics! Roxy, the difference is known and it is 29 grams, not 300 as your guesses lead to. (I'm even scared to think about what would had meant to grind 300 grams of that hard pet wood) But, supposing you would want to keep those guesses (which I'm sure you don't ), your answer might had been 1700 Tweet, your wish is my demand. Just wait for a couple of weeks, LOL! Adrian

.. but first can I have a hint like.. can I get you to tell me how much it weighs in Pounds.. Roxy, your wish is also my demand! Weight in pounds you need, weight in pounds you have: before being polished, this pet wood weighed somewhere between one and two pounds; and it does the same after being polished.Sorry I'm not more precise, but I'm not good in pounds Adrian PS. Now sseriously, this is the first (and maybe only) hint.

Im going to say 1079 before polish 1050 after
SUM = 2129 grams
You know we Americans have not used metric since like 4th grade. I was ordereing a bunch of stuff on ebay, and I thought 20 grams was a lot, I realized it wasn't once I received everything/
Math is so hard!!

That's not math its unit conversion. Actually I don't think grams are an SI (System International, or metric for most people) unit. Annoying either way. lol I'm going to go eat 123 grams of peanuts now.

493 after polish
522 before polishing
It's late in the evening here in Iowa and that's the best story I can come up with so, I am sticking to it !

ok Let me see if I understand this.... You want the weight before & the final weight added together for our guess? Including the 29 grams? I worked all night and this is hard to think of, LOL.. I'll answer tomorrow.

Tonja, you have to think about two weights that differ to each other by 29 grams, then add to each other.
Example: you think the rock weighed 2029 grams "before". This means the "after" weight is 2000 grams (the 29 grams difference is known). Your final answer should be 4029.
Do you get it now? It's not complicated, but probably I wasn't very clear from the beginning.
