Hi everyone! My new project is a sword. I designed it a while ago and these days I purchased most of the metal materials I need: the stainless steel for the blade and some brass for the handles. Of course the handles will include rocks too. Here is the drawing of the sword, together with the stainless steel strip. I overlapped a paper template of the blade on that strip and drew the gross contour of the sword. Then, did he cutting of the stainless steel: The strip was a bit shorter than the overall length of the sword (about 35 inches) so I had to weld a small piece of stainless steel at one of its ends. The width of the strip allowed me to get the extra material needed for this lengthening, as well as for the hand-guards. In this pic you can also see the brass sheets for the handle (hand-guard and square end) That would be all for now, I will post pics of the future progresses. Thanks for looking Adrian

Thank you for your interest and for encouragements, friends! Mel, I might had figured out your nickname has something to do with the passion for swords. I cut the groove on the blade today. I kept thinking how to do it, as the tools I have access at are only a few and they are basic ones. Finally, I thought my flat lap would do the best job with a bit of help. Fixed the blade on a 2 by 4: Then I attached the flat lap on the vertical arbor of my combo machine and above the flat lap I placed a diamond resin disk. I greased the flat lap and the 2by4 wood, turned the cooling water on and thus I made the groove. The cooling water mixed with the grease and made a mess all around But the groove came out OK. I also welded the guards, so here is how the sword looks right now: Thanks for looking, Adrian

Another winner from a creative genius. I think the blood trough (groove) came out fine. The hilt and guards also look great. I bet you could easily find a market for those if you decided to go into business.

You got me Ken! ;D you know, I drew and re-drew that guard and finally came with this Anyway, what you see in my previous post is not the final contour, I had to trim it to make it simetrical. Here is how it looks now, after I shaped it to its final contour: You can also spot my signature which I engraved on the blade. I used a dremel and a dentist burr for this: I also started the chamfering of the edges: Adrian
