"Hell, I'm not even sure if I'll be able to go next March... we'll see..."
Don't listen, I know where he lives. Dan will be there, we might both have black eyes and he might be in handcuffs and leg irons (uh, I don't have a key for the later they are nearly a hundred years old) but he will be there.

I just found out last night at work the company requested 3 days to meet with the union. We have been working since June 2009 with out a contract they have not sat down with use in all that time for more than one day at a time. Sounds like they may see the light and are finally ready to move on something. They want to take double time away for Sunday work and give us 354 dollars on a buy out what a joke that is. I just pulled 21 days in a row and made way more than that just in Sunday pay. Then the idiots that I work with had 32 people call in on Monday talk about shooting one's self in the foot. Still hoping things work out I need a rock fix bad my pile is getting a bit light I am down to 52 buckets of rocks I am worried about running out now if I live to 125 it could happen. George

Mark - I will surely try to make it.... Hope it works out for you George. Here's a video from the first day of the trip last March. I just sort of through this one together using the Windows 7 Movie maker. I'm definitely not Stanley Kubrick... lol....

Very cool movie! The first scene, looking down the highway, looks like the limestone cuts right near my home at Kerrville. Really fun to see the in situ pics of the biscuits. Makes me want to head right over there.....Mel

Thanks Y'all. Mel - I was watching that Cash and Treasures show last year and they brought in a geologist to find some nodules. Most of nodules in the exposed faces of the Basalt has been collected but he would find one (a Basalt rock) that had fractures and then open it up along the fracture. The fractures are a good hint that there's biscuits inside. The cracks are probably the result of the agate nodules expanding and contracting. I didn't start using that trick until the last trip and it paid off most times. Jo - there's more videos from past trips on my Youtube channel Thanks again!

Dan, My first trip to Woodward, I met up with some guys and gals from Beaumont, TX. Really fun bunch of folks! They showed me how to dig plume by prying apart the basalt and that's all we did that trip. It was pretty destructive though and I thought that was now prohibited. The other trips, the only digging I did was maybe to pry a nodule out of the dirt and I think we found more just by hiking. Way more fun too. That breaking up the basalt was hard work.....Mel

I found more breaking the basalt than I did on the ground filled the bottom of a bucket in half the time it took me to find them laying about was hard work. I brought some of the basalt home asked Tray he said help myself never charged me a dime. They are Yard rocks I cant bring myself to break them after hauling them all the way here. George

YAY!!! New video! For those that haven't been there, pay attention to the shapes of the rocks he picks up. You'll be way ahead of where I was on that first day. Everything is pretty much the same color, unless it's broken. Later, jeri

Jeri is right all right. My first trip I had the toughest time focusing on the biscuits as as she has said, everything is of very similar color unless already broken by the elements. Sometimes only a tiny piece showing too. Once you get focused in though, there's actually quite a lot to be found and the nicely rounded biscuits almost jump out at ya......Mel

Mel- Yep... they frown on that type of hunting these days but I generally stick to the ravines where it's out of sight and out of mind. I tend to find better quality nodules in the fractured Basalt but find more quantity just laying on the ground. I have a pretty good idea of where to find certain types of agates now too... I have some "honey holes" that I hit every year now.... Jeri- Glad you like it! I'm gonna edit some more footage soon... have several hours to sift through.... Have to apologize for all the sniffling and coughing I do on the vids... I get hay fever when I go and the altitude messes with me as well.. seems to get worse and worse every year.. Dan

Only 2 1/2 months until pure bliss!!!! ;D Guess Dan got lost in the vids. Donna, I'm driving. I recently saw what I think is a tent up in the attic. I know there should be one around here somewhere, just gotta find it, look it over and see if I remember how to set it up. It's prolly been 12? years. LOL It never hurts to have an extra tent available, so if you have room in your vehicle... People that have shown an interest in making it to Blitz #5... Donna and Ken Jo and Bill Dorothy and Don Susan and Dave Jeri Mel Dan Robert Mark Gil Ed Some of the above only plan to be there for a couple of days... Sorry if I missed anyone. Later, jeri

Was just looking at the east side on google earth. Found a nice looking formation I didn't know about before, if not on their property it washes into it, you can see the erosion (not far from the drop down). Sending the pic to Dan to see if anyone has checked it out since I was there.
As for the Pom pom, I know where it is, people say it is hunted out of needle peak but this is on the back side (if we can talk Trey into taking us there again) know I talked about it a little but not sure I owned up: I left myself behind because I was holding everyone up after he said we would come back through here on the way down, I picked up four or five "clear" agates but no more because didn't want any more clear, tripped over the rest. You can guess the rest, I didn't know what I was picking up until I got home yeah it was pom pom.

Put in your requests for Tri-state specimens. We can bring (for trade) dolomite, smithsonite, galena, wavelite, greenockite, etc. Ken
