My Interests: I'm more into the collecting/polishing/tumbling for specimens/display pieces. Rock Equipment: Three Thumlers tumblers. A Covington 10" combination unit (10" saw, 2x8" diamond wheels, expando drum) 14" slab saw - still in refurbishment. A Dremel which occasionally sees service as a lapidary tool What I'd like to See: Since I'm more into the specimen/collecting side of this hobby, I'm more interested in un-cut rocks or unpolished slabs. What I can Contribute: 1. Locally collected agates and jasper from around SoCal; pet wood; obsidian. 2. Occasionally mineral specimens, such as actinolite. 3. Various slabs - generally any size. 4. Basic pre-forms since I know others can do something better with them than I. 4. Un-cut rocks, both cutting sized and tumbling rough. Sometimes with an end cut off so we know what's inside. x2 on Jim's comment - we'll make sure to remove as well as contribute. . If you all don't mind, I'm going to let my boys pick some items out as well. Thanks for staring this up again, Helen! Paul

Equipment: 7" WF tile saw 2 2x3lb rotary tumblers (would be 3, but I seem to have an issue with motors burning up...) Lot-O-tumbler 2 wheel arbor with expando Spool polisher 12" HP vibrating lap (currently non-functional for the same reason as the rotary above)
Interests: Cabbing (BARELY getting started here) polishing slabs (didn't get far here before the lap motor went to that big rockpile in the sky) tumbling (kind of fallen by the wayside recently)
Contributions: MANY jaspers (mostly small rough) Smallish slabs of obsidian, agates, jaspers Small cutting rough (or smashing and tumbling if you are so inclined) Some bigger pieces of rough if anyone has a slab saw that needs food - the biggest one is a 7lb block of golden moss agate A few fossils (if I can get my wife to part with any)
If I have enough notice, I live 30 min away from what I've been told is fluorescent mineral central and can poke around for some specimens if anyone is interested. Ditto for Franklinite (heard it is rare outside of NJ - usually with Zincite on calcite)
Would Like to see: slabs, small (fist sized) cutting rough, fossils, cabs, t-egg halves
And if anyone is feeling cold, I also knit. Might be able to whip up a scarf or two before the box gets rolling ;D

Thanks for the patience guys!!! I managed to get SWAMPED for the Holidays, so have not had time to do ANYTHING rock-related. Thanksgiving is crazy for us anyway... it's my youngest son's birthday (he's now 17), my mother in law's birthday, and of course Thanksgiving too. It's just been one crazy thing after another, and things are finally starting to get normalized, sort of... as we are about to launch into Christmas.
Both my boys have girlfriends now, 'love of their life' types. So not only did we have our usual round of Thanksgiving festivities, we got to entertain their parents too, and both have Christmas parties going on, plus various other parties we 'must' go to. The biggest problem is that I had to 'clean up' my rocks to get the house presentable (yes, rocks were EVERYWHERE). Now I have to resort things again, because clean up wasn't very organized.
I will try to work on putting together a nice box over the next week ... but I do have a question. Do you guys think it's better to wait til after Christmas to start the box, or would you not mind getting the box right smack in the center of your holiday things? Holiday cheer, or too much work at a busy as heck time?? I ask this because due to shipping orders, someone, or more than 1 someone, will be getting the box on or around Christmas itself... is that good or bad for you? Would anyone volunteer to be timed into that slot?
I know I dropped the ball on this one for a while, just had a ton of unexpected things happening recently. I hope you guys haven't given up, and I promise it will be a fun box when I finally get it out!!!
Here is our current list of participants: 1 Helen 2 Wampidy (Jim) 3 Gingerkid (Jan) 4 Paulshiroma (Paul) 5 Blackout5783 6 Marinedad 7 Geoff 8 xxxAlisha91xxx 9 tntmom (Krystee) 10 Dora 11. Colliel82 12. Mattaya (Matt) 13. fwfranklen (Mike)
We have room for 2 more people. If we don't get 2 more signups by Dec 1, I'm going to invite a few from another forum to fill in for the 15.
Thanks for your patience, I'm sorry about the long delay getting started!!

Personally after Christmas would be better for me. We should be getting a 10" slab/trim saw in the next couple weeks, which would mean slabs for the box!

I agree with the two previous posters. Personally, I have a lot going on right now and would like to wait until after Christmas so things slow down a little :-)

Works for me! It'll give me some time to cut more slabs as well. Just haven't had a whole lot of time for the hobby lately.

Great idea! Because the holidays are also the busiest times at the post office and long lines and delivery delays are very common. After the holidays is perfect with me.

Awesome! Thank you guys sooo much. Will also give me time to put a more varied first box if we plan to ship the week after after New Years, when I can happily wreck the house again:).

Hi, Helen!! Wanted to ask if there are any openings left for the box? After Christmas sounds like a great idea to get the box on the road.

Helen, move me to the "stand-by" list and let Jan take my place. If there is room still after the holidays, you can reinsert me into the line up.
Jan, I've already done a couple of these so I'm glad to sit out.

Hi, Paul! Thank you very much for your kindness, but I have already signed up for this round. I'm sorry for the confusion, I just wondered how many openings needed to be filled. Thank you, Paul!!

Sounds like full to me... so what I'd like to do if add some material to the box before it gets going... Something for the tumblers out there if there is room in the box.. let me know by PM as I can never keep to the threads in a timely manner it seems.. been hectic here too!!
