At least it arrived! woo hoo Looking forward to your assessment of it. Sounds like it's a chore to get the paper off the plexiglass. LOL. An hour later and I'm still pulling paper off of the first piece. This is gonna take a while.

Update. The woman had these cabinets made in China, but the fit and finish are very nice on them.
Still peeling paper off of the plastic, And peeling, and peeling, and peeling, and ---------------. It may take a whole day to get all of the paper off of the plastic pieces, but The end result will be a very nice cabinet.
These are made so the front piece of plexiglass can be slid out of the top for cleaning or moving things around inside of the case. Makes it almost impossible for a kid to open the case and play with the contents.

The listing said something about using mineral spirits or something to remove the paper.

She just listed 2 more for me at the price I paid the first time. Snagged both of them. My wife saw the one that came today and was ready to lay claim to it. Gotta keep peace in the family, and still get my 2 cabinets.
Found a trick to peeling the paper. On one side of the plexi, the paper is printed. On the other side it's plain. If you peel the printed side first, the plain side comes off easy.

Here I was thinkin' the trick was - have your wife do it. Nah, wife doesn't have the patience for it. Got all 4 side panels done before bed last night. I'll finish it this morning. Trick to assembly. --- The side panels will try to fall out before the top is installed. Loop long rubber bands over the top threaded studs to hold things together. Cut the rubber bands after putting the top on.

Display case arrived today - with parts missing or broken. Missing 2 of the small wooden donut shelf supports and 1 of the large ones with another large one broken in half. So, I need 4 of those things before display can be assembled. Looks like this box was used to supply parts for other units. Just sent a message to the seller. We'll see how she responds... ETA: She has already replied (in 1 hour) that she would send the needed parts Priority Mail.

That's a bummer Bob. So far she has worked pretty good with me. I think she'll do good by you. She wants to maintain her 100% positive reviews.

Congrats on your cabinet purchase, captbob, and hope you receive the parts soon. I hope you and jakesrocks will post pics of the cabinets (with specimens included) when you get 'em set up. Nice purdies, Don! I like the gahnite and the vanadinite (sparkly!). Gahnite is a member of the spinel family. Have seen nice examples of faceted gahnite. Will have to research hedyphane. Love the ruby - killer uv photo! Have y'all thought about purchasing gemstones to correspond with your mineral specimens??

Got one cabinet assembled and almost ready for specimens. 2 or possibly 3 more coming today. The UPS guy hates me almost as much as the mail man does. Shipping weight on those cabinets is 40 lbs. each.
I'd love to have the corresponding cut gems to display, but I haven't won the lottery yet.

I'd love to have the corresponding cut gems to display, but I haven't won the lottery yet. ROFL, jakesrocks! Sure would like to be a fly on the wall when your UPS guy makes your delivery today. Don, at one time I thought it would be less expensive to collect specimens, especially garnet specimens, since the garnet gemstones were putting a dent in the wallet. Not so, some of the garnet specimens are more expensive than their gemstone counterparts. Some of the gems I collect, such as the quartz gems with inclusions, have chips in them. But the chips in the stones make them less expensive. Cabs are usually not as expensive as the faceted gems. Speaking of specimens, would y'all like to share what is the most moolah you have spent on a specimen, or is that stretchin' the line? The most I've spent on one is $250.00 for a Pakistani spessartine specimen. ahem. You know it's bad when you place specimens on a lay-away plan.

I'm not quite that bad. $200.00 on an extra nice Fairburn agate was my tops. But don't tell my wife. Of course before moving from California, I spent over $1,000.00 buying out estate rocks & equipment.
LOL. You wouldn't want to be a fly on the wall today. It's only 12 deg outside, with minus 5 deg. wind chill.

I confess trying to sneak boxes of rocks, minerals, and gemstones into the house, but it doesn't take Rick long to realize I made a purchase - and if I move them around. (rock decorating, lol) I found it easier to receive his blessing beforehand, though. LOL. You wouldn't want to be a fly on the wall today. It's only 12 deg outside, with minus 5 deg. wind chill. heh heh!

Were you able to set up your cabinets with pretty minerals, jakesrocks and captbob? Please post some pics if/when you do! Don, did your other cabinet arrive? Enjoyed checking out your new (and rare!) TN's, Don, and had to look up a couple of 'em. Really like the color of the sturmanite. Haven't heard of bobsdownite, but read that it was discovered in 2011, rare and is found where I guess polar bears roam? Is the heulandite the green mineral, or is that the matrix? I've seen some green heulandite colored by celadonite inclusions. Or is the heulandite the reddish areas? Read some interesting stuff on the Galleries website about clinoptilolite. It's not a well-known zeolite but is a very resourceful mineral. From the website: "Clinoptilolite is used in many applications such as a chemical sieve, a gas absorber, a feed additive, a food additive, an odor control agent and as a water filter for municipal and residential drinking water and aquariums. Clinoptilolite is well suited for these applications due to its large amount of pore space, high resistance to extreme temperatures and chemically neutral basic structure. What might strike many as odd is the food and feed additives. Clinoptilolite has been used for several years now as an additive to feed for cows, pigs, horses and chickens. It absorbs toxins in the feed that are created by molds and microscopic parasites and has enhance food absorption by these animals. Similar uses in actual people food is being tested. Clinoptilolite can easily absorb ammonia and other toxic gases from air and water and thus can be used in filters, both for health reasons and for odor removal." Source: www.galleries.com/ClinoptiloliteThe prousite is pretty, too, and it is an important source of metal, although it is not metallic. It is sometimes called "ruby silver ore" and "light red silver."

Jan, I got a total of 4 cabinets. (2 for me. 2 for my wife). 2 of them arrived missing parts, so I'm waiting on a box of parts to finish them off.
The Bobdownsite is found in only 3 places. The type locality is supposed to be worked out, so I was lucky to get a specimen from there at a decent price.
The Heulandite is the reddish area, and the lighter colored crystals are Clinoptilolite.
