Democrats did NOT 'expand' Homeland Security... they consolidated it to eliminate redundancies and save money. I even took a quick look, and found nothing about EXPANDING invasive procedures. That's all Republican. Whom while they take away our rights behind our backs, loudly scream about 2nd Amendment rights as the distraction. Democrats are the pot smoking hippies/greenies/peaceniks who protest wars remember? I don't think you'll find too many Democrats wanting a police state. Matter of fact, I doubt you'll find any. That said, I did find the Democrat Party Position on Homeland Security for you: www.ontheissues.org/celeb/Democratic_Party_Homeland_Security.htmLooks pretty basic, clear and logical to me.

Personally, I hope they take the second one alive so we can have some good ole' fashioned Hammurabi code style justice. Make him sit on one of his own bombs and detonate it.

Right Helen, Position and policies are one thing, actions are another. You are right to say you can expect the progressive statist Rep to enact draconian assaults on freedoms for "national security", just like the progressive Dem will take away our freedom and choices in other areas such as healthcare, etc. The commonality is you never see the one remove the repressive policies of the other when the balance of power shifts, kinda like they have one common agenda and they keep us little people occupied with partisan bickering while they gradually enact it. Lee, you did nail the problem here. "Keeping us occupied with partisan bickering"... the equivalent of causing a distraction while accomplices rob the bank.
I think our 'freedoms' is not something we can even address til we address campaign reform. While conspiracy theories abound, I view it as a pretty transparent thing. Everyone can be bought. That's why bribery is illegal.... yet somehow, corporations are allowed to buy our elections. The only thing preserving our 'freedom' is that not all corporations agree with the same policies.
The side we should ALL be on is the side that is trying to get campaign reform, because there's no other power we actually have.
As for health care, being forced to buy insurance is a Republican idea. The Democrat idea is that everyone is GIVEN health care. That it is as reasonable as having roads to drive on, or our air traffic and food regulated to protect the public health. We live in a very smoke and mirrors world today.

I want to mention that this is why I really like John McCain. While I disagree with some of his ideas, he HAS made an effort towards campaign reform. Here's a WIKI with a campaign reform history: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campaign_finance_reform_in_the_United_StatesCitizens United being overturned by the Supreme Court really stunk. I have a lot to say on this issue... but if I don't start packing, I'll show up in Vegas for 2 weeks with a backpack... so more later:).

I'd rather he be taken alive, too. More because dead men tell no tales, and the why, how and who else may have yet to be fully answered.

Well, I sure hope he feels like talking if he is taken alive. Too bad we have such limited options in terms of interrogation.

I don't know where they keep them, but I think all US cities have National Guard, Armories, tanks, the whole range of weapons, just in case we get invaded. I'm pretty sure that's been the case since the 1950s.

I'm trying to understand what you see sinister about that. The people who would be using those weapons would be Americans.

Consider this, the sword that slays the foe oft has two edges. It is a question of another one of those pesky little things that prop up the pillars of freedom. In this case, the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878

No, there are not 2 edges. You have known some military and cops in your life. If they were 'ordered' by the Federal gov't to shoot or arrest local police, would they do it? Some might. The vast majority would not do it. ESPECIALLY if they knew it was happening in other cities.
Very similar to the last hijacked plane during 9-11 who HEARD what happened to other hijacked planes already. They fought. To the death. There is ZERO, and I mean ZERO possibility that a nationwide effort to harm citizens without just cause will EVER fly in this country, regardless of who desires it.
That is just silly.

I always say. Not all Muslims as terrorists, but so far, all terrorists have been Muslims.

Jockstrap, you have a very limited definition of terrorism, yes? My mind goes to Ted Kaczynski (not sure I spelled that right), Christian Crusades, etc., etc.
How sad to see a post lamenting the tragedy in Boston deteriorate in to yet another political thread . . .
I, too, hoped that the perpetrators were "Americans," not for a political reason, but because I am all too aware of the nature of humans to turn on people simply because of nationality, religion, color, etc.
