Thanks all.
Scott. I went back and looked at the blue stone photo that you posted and the darkness of the two colors is about what I want for paint only not in blue. My darker color will be just a little bit lighter than the dark blue in the stone. Beautiful stone by the way. I have only found two little pieces of blue stone here and I wish I could find more. What I found looks like agate.
It is a good thought Helen but I have 1/4 inch foam and 1/8th inch board in the roof that is going to stop most heat and cold exchange.
I will be painting it a light color with large random crescents just a tiny bit darker. I hope to get them kind of like a shadow with no distinct edges. I wish Jimmy was practiced up with an air brush so he could paint some dragon shadows on the sides.
I hope to get the transfer case put back together tomorrow evening and be on the road by Thursday. Jimmy and I are on a tile job in Cody which is 50 miles away so the pickup refurbishing has come to a halt. I really want to get it on the road in hopes that the pickup will get better gas mileage than my Jeep. Jim

Oooh... dragon shadows!!! Or maybe flames (is that too choppery?)? Well, what will you do mostly with the truck... blend into the landscape (hiding from park rangers? j/k) or stand out like a sore thumb:)? You can paint it the outside colors of your favorite rock if you want to blend in, and the inside colors of your favorite rock if you want to stand out:P. I just realized what you said.... a gradient color from bottom to the top... wow... if you could pull that off, it would be incredible! Like this ombre dress: or these colors if you don't like the wampidy pink above: imgfave.com/view/2641654

Not what I was thinking Helen. All of the pickup painted a light color then crescents (like moons) very slightly darker so they look more like shadows of moons. Kind of like looking at the moon through a cloud and you can barely see it.. Jim

Crescents? I'm not sure what you mean... would that look sort of like subtle camouflage?

Thanks for posting your project As far as door jams and such in a color change, it shouldn't be that much trouble to spray bomb. Take some reducer, wipe it down, scuff it up good with 220, wipe it down again, tape it up, tack rag and spray. I haven't shot a truck in a long time, but if I were closer, I'd love to help out.

Helen, you surely know what a crescent moon looks like unless I am spelling it totally wrong. You know, like a quarter moon. Different sizes of crescents randomly painted down the side of the pickup.
Where do you live Tela. You must need a vacation soon right? I will take you to Yellowstone Park so you can bite a bear. Jim

I dont know squat about rebuilding trucks, but sure looks (and sounds) like you're doing a fantastic job of it! I'm impressed!! P.S. I agree with Scott... Succor Creek Blue

The more I think about it the better the blue sounds. I love pink but that would probably not work so well. It would be a hit in China though. Jim

I have been off the pickup project for a while but I am at it again. Right now I am repairing a propane system to add for cheaper fuel and cleaner engine (a lot less oil changes). The parts that go under the hood are cleaned on the outside but I have to get kits to repair a couple of them (gaskets and o-rings). The tank is a monster that holds 69 gallons but with propane costing about $2.50 a gallon it is going to make a huge difference. There is a ten percent drop in power and mileage but the cheaper fuel will still be way cheaper to operate. Right now I am cleaning up the tank and painting it. The tank was in the back of a farm pickup so it got beat up pretty bad as you can see. Two more day sessions and I should have it done. Tomorrow is supposed to be a good day but then I am going to have to wait a couple of days to finish. Thanks for stopping by and showing your interest in my project. Jim

The system I have is a dual fuel system so it sits on top of the regular carburetor. I don't think I would want a propane only system because there may be times that I need the extra power of the gasoline like when I pull the camper to the top of the mountains.
I installed one of these systems a long long time ago so I am familiar with it. They have been available for ? 30, 40 years and maybe longer. They are getting popular again because of the price of gasoline. The problem is if you buy a new system and have it installed it takes quite a while to get your money back. They charge an outlandish (I think) price for their product so a lot of people want it but the initial start up cost of $3000.00 to $4000.00 scares them away. I am still totally amazed that the guy sold it to me for $100. The straps to hold that tank in the pickup costs $230.00 new. Jim

nearly every car in Germany is dual fuel benzene/LPG. $8.50 for benzene and half that for LPG.

how come ya didn't paint the whole tank? hahaha good question. The weather here is getting pretty cold so I can only work on it for a few hours a day when it warms up. Lucky me, I started on it yesterday and by the looks of the weather report I will not be able to hit it again until next tuesday. It got warm enough today but the humidity was so high that the dew on the tank stayed all day. I could have taken it to a friends shop but then I would have to mask up and I hate painting inside. I had heard that fuel was pretty high in Europe but I did not know it is that high. Lucky us. Jim
