Lets start the new year right. Contest entrants must include pics of the 5 best pieces they produced. I'll put rules here later. But the big deal on this contest, is you must all tumble the same stuff. I'm supplying the stones from my rockhounding endeavors. Therefore I will not enter. I will provide a free SFRB of Lavic. All I ask is you send me $7 for postage. If you decide to enter, please indicate if you have a saw or not. Or at least a way to break bigger pieces down. Send payment to me Scott dot solar at Gmail. Com I am sponsoring one entrant for free postage. If any body else wants to sponsor a friend, please post it here. Let's not leave out a student or retiree over postage. Entries will be blind. PM your photos in January. Omg! Huge response, so fast. We have a generous offer from Tommy to also sponsor folks and send the rocks. He collected the same stuff when I did. metalsmith gave me the idea I forgot out intl friends. Canada is US$25 for a small box Great Britain is US$35 Anywhere else? I will get you a price. kk @adrian HERE IS A LIST OF ENTRANTS SO FAR. I'll play and I'll sponsor someone. Should I send $12 now or $6 now and $6 later if someone needs a sponsor?

If anybody wants to offer a prize please PM me. I'm in ... Lavic Jasper will be challenging as it doesn't take a real good shine under the best circumstances. The Lavic moss agate will do better - I've collected both on the same walkaround. I have a milk crate of Lavic jasper collected last year. I can supply my own as well as sponsor (many) contestants.

Hey shotgunner, I never heard of lavis jasper before, so I had to check it out. Pretty neat material. Is it mostly brecciated jasper and pet wood? That's mainly what I found during my stay in Imperial county. I didn't have transportation, so I had to look for local rocks. It's a workout collecting in 100+ temps.
So, do I still have to pay $6? I don't have a saw.

Sounds like fun. Can I play too? Is it OK to use a grinder to take out the imperfections before tumbling?

Sounds like fun. Can I play too? Is it OK to use a grinder to take out the imperfections before tumbling? Good question. That's allowed in the Feather River World Rock Tumbling Contest.

If one already has some Lavic on hand, is it okay to just use that?

If one already has some Lavic on hand, is it okay to just use that? I would say no. I think to be fair, it all has to be the same quality of stone. If someone had a large supply of rock, they could tumble a bunch of it and pick the best piece. I have some Lavic that I tumbled a couple years ago that I won't use for this competition.
