Interesting stuff: some of it was as hard as agate, and some of it was chalky. After running into two different wasps nests creek walking figured it was not a good day for hounding... pre-processing this lavic, and yes some solid, some not so much... we'll see. Starting material - less the sand dollar.

My wifey havasumargo has finally started the prepolish on her entries. Can't wait to see everyone else's entries. This thread has been very quiet. Seems we have some very good poker players here.

@shotgunner How many players did you end up with?
I'll figure out what my 2nd place prize donation will be soon. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe pierce work since I am so into it now. Or, should it involve rock?

Howdy tumblers! Hope your tumblers are running smooth. I'm really looking forward to seeing the entries. As you know I volunteered a few prizes. 1st prize was already posted- a gold filled wrap with a sweet maw sit sit. Hell, you can cut the wrap off and use it yourself if you want. The stone is super nice. I had a hard time deciding the 2nd and 3rd, but here they are. Please understand that I had a helluva time getting pictures of these. They look so much better esp the key chain, which is etched and came out super nice. The camera did funny things to the finish that you can't see with the eye. The key chain is 18g copper. It will look fabulous holding your rock shed keys! I only made one of these and will not make any others. Credit for the original design is not mine. SECOND PLACE- Etched Copper with patina and ren wax to help preserve the finish. THIRD PLACE- Owyhee dendritic jasper copper bezel set pendant. Beautiful in person! Made by me. Good luck everyone!!!!! May the shiniest rock win!

Those donated prizes are awesome , very generous of you Thank you, but for me it isn't generosity, it's me paying RTH back for some of the entertainment I get here. Besides, I don't tumble, so it's a way for me to be involved.

Tela that key chain is fantastic wow... Thanks! I'm really happy how it came out. There's a couple boo boos but all in all, I am pleased. I've never done an etch quite so detailed before.

Ok, I've been looking at the key chain and I see no bo boos. It looks great but bo boos, where? It's a key chain, looks great.

The only patina I see out of place is next to your thumbnail, lol. Imagine that stuff can do some staining.
Ya know, that would make a great belt buckle! Anyone know how/able to cast some brass? I mean, the copper looks great, but a belt buckle should be out of brass for weight and strength.

Great minds think alike, I guess. Never been a wrastlin' fan, or a big rodeo fan, but there's something cool about winning a buckle (or belt).

I started these in 20g and soon learned that 18 would be better. I don't imagine that a brass belt buckle would be too much different to do. I'll have to look into it.

THANKS! I see them. They are in the patina, not the metal. It's an oxymoron - you can't have "boo-boo's" in a hand crafted work of art. If these were being stamped out by a machine and the die got a nick in it then yes you could say that the batch had a flaw. I need to keep telling myself this every time I throw out a perfectly beautiful cab because a scratch or low spot snuck through haha.

Am I really the first person to say that you can throw them my way? ? I'd take your seconds any day!

Haha I shouldn't have said "throw out" - they usually end up in the gifts box. If it's hard and stable it might make it into the tumble someday bin - if it's true crap it goes into the island of lost cabs jar.
