Let us know how you found our little community on the web. You can explain your answer in the comments. This is an open ended poll. If you are new please consider answering it. I first found the very good beginners guide at www.smarterhobby.com/rock-tumbling/ and the author included a link to this group. Thanks! Thank you! I followed the link. That's a pretty good article. If you have further questions, just ask.

Google search for "Lapidary Forum". RTH had the most active users. The way the site was laid out was very helpful to look for specific information.

I have been tumbling glass and rocks for about a year now. Up until now I have utilized Facebook groups for info on rocks and the hobby in general. I am trying to move away from Facebook and found this site thru a group there. I am excited to learn more and have a platform without all of the drama of Facebook.

I just joined. I came here after searching for rock tumbling. I have the National Geographic tumbler. I have a question ...; I have a lot of river rocks. The edges are smooth but they don't have any luster to them. Could I just start polishing with GRIT #3 then #4 to buff and shine them?

I may have stumbled on it once, but it was Michigan Rocks who recommended it. Thanks.

When we built our house, they unearthed all these gorgeous boulders and I found such a variety of rocks, I needed to find out what they were! I stumbled on this site and discovered some of my rocks might look good tumbled and I got hooked.

Always have had a thing for rocks. Didnt mater what kind or from where. they always seemed wonderful. I finally got a used cabbing machine 6 months ago. I'd had always wanted one but never knew anyone that was into doing these things we love. I purchased a 38 lb specimen emerald. Well I took a chance and cracked it. Ow my im stuck. No going back best two disisions I've mad I think. Was checking a post on face book found out how to resurface my wheels and found this place. Feel blessed to have found yall.

Hi all, I'm a newbie with lots to learn. Within the next year or so I will be moving my Dad's lapidary tools into my home. Dad went blind before he could teach me much. He's gone now, and all I can do is slab larger rocks. I learned the hard way to recheck the screw downs between slabs. The last time I cut a rock, it cracked during the second slab, threw off a chunk and bent the saw blade Among other things, I would like to eventually create a sort of stained glass window of rock slabs.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I'm sorry that you lost your dad before he was able to pass on his probable wealth of knowledge. However, I'm glad to hear you're carrying on the legacy. I don't mind lessons learned in life...I just hate the "expensive" lessons! Good thing the damage was limited to the rock and the saw blade! I love the idea of the stained glass window idea. There's a member on here who makes some butterflies that look just like stained glass! Cool idea!
