I googled rockhounding in Kentucky (trying to a trip to find agate and geodes with my 14 y/o daughter) and came across this group.

Hello and thank you, I new to tumbling, I started a year ago with a national geographic hobby tumbler and that tumbler has been going everyday since I got it. I've since picked up a Lortone double 3lb barrel a 4lb mini sonic vibratory and recently I was given a single barrel Lot-O tumbler that was a friends grandfather's. I have lots to learn and questions so Im looking forward to it.

I found this forum from researching rock tumbling questions in Google and 90% of the time it brought me here. You all have been incredibly helpful to someone like me starting out and very generous with your time and knowledge. In all the threads I have read, everyone has also been very friendly and fun group. Thank you

Googled rock tumbling tips and looked through all the suggestions on the first few pages. This one had the most i formative information. I started tumbling less than a year ago and after reading tips from every where and some very little experience i found this forum seems to know the most and it turns out to be solid advice.

Hello my name is John, Never done any rock tumbling. I have collected a pile of petrified wood from the creek that runs behind my house over the years. I built a new kitchen island and don’t like the way it turned out. Was thinking incorporating some of the petrified wood into a new top and pouring epoxy over it. Would look a lot nicer if it was polished stone. So I built a tumbler and some barrels of various sizes. Now I’m lost in a sea of everyone’s perfect tumbling recipe. I just want to talk to some people who are proficient in this skill. So I can find out how good or bad, my ready, fire, aim Approach to this endeavor is. Any information especially on petrified wood will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, John

Not many people read the Member Survey thread, and you'll get a lot more help if you post your questions on the Rock Tumbling Board where it will be seen by the tumblers here. Lots of people tumble petrified wood, so I'm sure you'll get really good info.

I voted on here as through Google search when I was a total noob with only a Lortone 33b. Got sucked in on accident and totally got my lapidary journey rollin'. I now own a 33b, and MT-4, a poly d14, and might win a tumbler bee on the 31st. The poly was all RTH's fault... 😂

Let us know how you found our little community on the web. You can explain your answer in the comments. This is an open ended poll. If you are new please consider answering it. Found this through watching Rob from Michigan rocks video on YouTube 😀

I'm 74 and have been bringing home rocks since I could walk, not good ones then, I can't walk far now, so my Husband is my hunter and tumbler now. I love anything rocks. Good to find you.

Primarily word of mouth from SO. Who I think is a member lol
Secondarily, this comes up on my google a lot when I have inquiries regarding equipment.

I searched using cat litter in the tumbler, and saw a thread on it.

This summer I became obsessed, almost compulsive, with rocks, and decided I needed to actually DO something with them all! (My area is loaded with chalcedony, quartzite etc.) Every weekend was camping and collecting, nights after work too. (Lol, at work as well... You should see what we use as parking lot gravel!😂) Started reading posts about tumbling, and said "Ain't nobody got time for that!" In my search for faster options, I found the PVC thread. (HUGE thank you to everyone involved ❤️) Planning to build my own tumbler with 2 PVC barrels soon, currently using 2 x 3lb rotary and a vibratory, just started last week. Definitely will need some ID help in the future.... I have hundreds of rocks...🤪 Already have plans and supplies for gifts to make/sell and my boyfriend helps me every step, collecting/building electronic stuff/creating my work room.🥰 My maternal grandmother and grandfather were rockhounds and jewellery makers in the 70's and 80's in Ontario Canada. Proud to carry on the family tradition here in BC!
