I heard a cicada making a distress call.
Distress it is in, being stung to death. Yellow jackets are capable of multiple stings. Poor cicada is being prepared for dinner.

Oh yeah them yallerjackets are meat eaters of the first order. The eat everything from adult bugs and caterpillars to road kill and my hamburgers. We have Cicada Killer wasps here that are so big they carry off a large cicada all by themselves. Sound like a dang Huey flying by.....Mel

Had my share of stings from them beasts,while roofing as a young buck!!! Sad or not,I liked the video...

Oh yeah them yallerjackets are meat eaters of the first order. The eat everything from adult bugs and caterpillars to road kill and my hamburgers. We have Cicada Killer wasps here that are so big they carry off a large cicada all by themselves. Sound like a dang Huey flying by.....Mel Cicada killer wasp is #1 most dastardly. Insects make Sci Fi look like serenity. "Once cells have been constructed, the search for cicadas begins. Canvassing tree trunks and lower limbs, the wasp stings its prey, turns the victim on its back, straddles it, and drags it or glides with it to the burrow. Each cell is furnished with at least one cicada (sometimes two or three) and a single egg before being sealed off. The egg hatches two or three days later and the larva feeds four to ten days, until only the cicada's outer shell remains. During the fall, the larva spins a silken case and prepares to overwinter. Only one generation occurs each year." |

One year at the Virgin Valley Opal fields, the Horseflies were really bad. They were bombarding my white pickup truck and us like crazed kamikazes. We would swat the hell out of them. It would knock them out for a few minutes, but then they would come back to life and attack some more. So then we thought it would be fun to start feeding them to the ants. I guess it's kind of morbid to be entertained watching a group of ants dismembering the horseflies and dragging the pieces down into the nest. Seems right to me. |

So you will dislocate your shoulder when you try to slap em. |
