The bonding agent may be a challenge MsAli . Grout might work but those tops do flex a little bit which may interrupt the bond of grout or crack the grout. A silicone might work though. Being carbon steel rust is another thing to attack the bond. They'd sure look great with such a finish. The grout was what I was wondering about, especially on the steel. Just throwing things out and have no clue what I'm talking about It would look mighty good tho Braze prongs to hold stones like a giant diamond ring settings ? To be honest, I try to keep it as simple as possible to make the ole pay check. (money ho) Get tons of requests to make grills and install gas burners. I refer them to eBay items. The basic pit makes the most money per unit time of work.

A fancy weld job might be the way to go tho. However, Simple is usually the best and don't mess with what brings you the $.

It would not be for everyone though. It is dirty loud and heavy work. In this computer age dirty jobs pay dividends. I had a muddy aquatic plant business for 27 years and Mike Rowe would have considered one of the dirtiest jobs. I remember making $1000 deliveries often twice a day. Stopping at lunch in the city and being looked at like dirty scum. Those suit and ties had to work all week to make what I had made in day. Shoulda backed my dirty truck into their shiny Porsches. That would make me happy.

Unconventional madness Ali. Always been a nerdy machine head and very competitive in a production engineering environment. I used to design locking systems on doors so my associates and the boss could not escape their office. Welded up machines to assist MMA fighters in their exercise routines, a sex machine(no comment), animal traps, cookers, you name it. Most were 'government jobs' requested by upper level corporate executives at the company I was employed at. Tumbling equipment lets me relive those type projects. Vibratory tumblers have been one of the most challenging endeavors ever. You speak way over my head. I am always impressed by people with the talent to build things and always impressed with people that have artistic talent. You combine both. As far as the vibratory tumblers, you might just end up with something way better than what's on the market and make a small fortune.
(and I am very proud of myself for not making a comment on the above no comment subject)
Ali you should see how gitty he gets when he fires up his plasma cutter 😂 a Pure Art Genious at work! jamespJim you do pull energy from creating!

Well I for one am thankful for you passing the lessons on to us and I hope it challenges others to throw those big rock in The "Sapphire" will be interesting to see if you can accomplish the mission of getting a polish on it-I wouldn't see why you wouldn't though George is going in Saturday-I am too curious to see what happens, so my batch will be coming out and set aside. Either that or dammit, I am going to spend $ and just buy myself another present-hhhhmmmm, just got my work bonus.
Pick some of your favorite tumbles you have in process. There is a good chance that you can add them in with George. As long as George does not jam in the small barrel you are OK. Was curious if you were going to abort that batch lol. I won my own bet. Probably should have been a profiler. People with small ears and blue Volkswagens are often serial killers. lol. How do they do that. George was going to go in today but I started pulling rocks out and I'll be damned if they are not almost all ready to go to step 2. I added a few larger Montana's to the barrel last week and holy crap did that make a difference. So I'm leaving them in for another week. See I can have patience😂

The smart engineers got together and designed a tiny shoe box sized plasma cutter that tames 1 inch steel melhill1659Why do they put that crap out on the market. No way it could be resisted. Ladies and their cosmetics, mens and their tools.

No time requirements that I know of. Proud you maintained your path. Best if you can set your tumbler up and walk away till it's next needed service MsAli. I have been on a binge to redo all tumblers and get them running up to snuff. Been almost a month. With 4 barrels and a vibe going the service stops become a bit more a duty. Montana agate is some fine pure agate and takes a lot of time to grind into shape. worth the effort. Polishes with the best.

Damn, big red got trapped in a box addressed to Fresno CA. How'd that happen ? Thanks for cheering me on Ali. After polish I could not find a single fracture. From rotary to polish in 38 hours. Big rock in small hopper makes for fast work. Such an arrangement greatly increases compressive grind forces on rock. The big rock barely moved while the media was flowing quickly around it. Note taken. Polish is up to snuff: WHAT!!!!!!! You sly dog Take note boys, that's the way to my heart!!!!!! LOL!!!!! Big Red is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Big Red is way better in person. Thank you!!! ❤
