Sands, I'm not too worried about messing up. I expect to when I first start. And I won't be working on some real expensive rocks- like the parrot wing! BE and I got not one, not two, but three great deals on slabs. All together, it probably averaged out to about 50/75 cents per slab and some of these slabs are 4 to 6" long and 2 to 3" wide. Some just so-so stuff and some really pretty ones. I'll practice on the so-so stuff and save the nice ones for when I learn what the heck I'm doing! LOL! Got the motor mounted and a drip system set up today. Tomorrow it's back to the hardware store for some tubing for drainage - forgot that today - and hopefully I will get the belts I ordered. I also discovered I might be able to turn the grinder and motor at a bit of an angle and be able to use the disc. Won't know for sure if it will work til I get it going and just try it. I will use one of the silicone carbine discs I ordered, not the $30 1200 diamond disc, to check it out though! LOL! Sure hope it works cause I not only can save $30 using a diamond disc rather than a belt, but can get an 8" leather disc for polishing for $4.60 at our local rock shop, rather than $38.00 for a belt. I'm a just a couple days away from being a grindin' fool! llana

so what is your truck (not) doing...not starting at all? i had a crank sensor go on my Dodge Dakota, it would crank but just not start (like it was out of gas)....as soon as they hooked it up to the diagnostic machine, they knew exactly what it was....i'd never even HEARD of a crank sensor before.....
what year is your truck? when Doc gets power again and gets back online, maybe he could suggest something? i saw where Tampa got nailed pretty badly, so it may be a while....meanwhile, hang in there, they've got to figure it soon!

Cool, Sands!!! I'll be racing to my mailbox everyday until they arrive! This is so exciting............and SOOOOO nice of you! Have you decided what we can send you in return? I thought of something, but then decided that it was a dumb idea. I have those occassionally. But it's perfectly OK for me to have dumb ideas once in a while cuz I'm blond! However, dumb ideas don't get me any closer to knowing what would be good to send you.
Wish I could send you a new truck. Have you been able to see your daughter lately? How's she doing?
Thanks for being so thoughtful to all of us!

i just ordered some new drill bits from cyberrockhound....what do you use for bits, Sands? the hole in the pendant was nicely done.
i have been experimenting and have found the twisted diamond bits from there are getting to be my favorite, tho i still tend to get some blow out at the back.
i've tried some other kinds, but the twisted ones seem to last a little longer.....expensive tho, like everything!
