i LIKE THE PRICE OF THE ultracruz mineral oil, but find that it does not separate the solids out very good. I really like used ATF but that has it own problems. The solids really separate out good.

Thanks guys I appreciate Intelligent Responses! Well I like the TSC store $40.00 pricetag on the MAG-1 and on investigation it is Mineral Oil and Synthetics NON DINO type oil so I think it will fly with disposal in the trash can. The problem is no store within 50 miles of me carry's it. Amazon handles it for 48.98 a 5 gal pail and free shipping with prime but they are out of stock. the Ultra Cruz mineral oil from San Juan Ranch saves me $6.00 a Gal so that's not to bad a deal. I think i will get 5 Gal from them and then order the Mag-1 from Amazon and give them both a try and try them both. they are both cheaper than I have been paying in the meantime I will do further inquiry from TSC and see if they can order it in. Thanks ~Duke

So you have four gallons of dirty oil, eh?
That paper bag’ll supply ≥3.8 gallons, crystal clear, in less than a day and a half.

You spend a fortune on outfitting your shop and are now concerned w/ a few cents price diff in mineral oils? Go to Walmart, pharmacy area, mineral oil by the pint for under $2 a pint.

I have done that here in town(buy all they have on stock), even ordered a few cases (which never came to the store), I told them to piss off, after a few months of waiting!!! I do buy them for my trim saw, its takes about one bottle per session...

I looked up the mag 1, but it has additives in it that make me wonder. Is it sticky? It says tackifiers. What does that mean?

The short answer is it looks as if tackifiers aid in keeping the lubricant on the desired surface than without tackifiers. It may also help with misting. Here's a .pdf I found, if your interested. www.addapt-chem.com/assets/tackifiers.pdf

A few cents difference in Oil? Where did you go to school at? Lemme see i was paying 17.95 a Gal from Rural King. $2.00 a pint from Wally World is 8 pints to Gal = 16.00 per gal is a $ 1.95 savings not bad....... But paying $48.98 for 5 gal from Amazon for the MAG-1 is $9.79 per gal a savings of $8.16 a Gal Gee take care of the pennies the dollars will take care of themselves! Yeah Id say it pays to shop. parfive I owe you an apology, I didn't know where you were heading w/ the grocery bag comment now I understand. But on the other hand I have no way to drain my saw cause I bolted it down to the cart and BD has a stupid rubber plug in the base and I am going to in the future install a nipple and a full port 1" ball valve until that time I cant drain saw properly to recover or filter oil. that being said I need to get oil as cheap as I can. ~Duke

I am definitely concerned about misting as You get alot of that with mineral oil at least the type I was using. I will be cking that out in tests when I use it. Good Info Brother dave thanks. ~Duke

I hate but why in the world don't you guys use water soluble oils think about it what are you trying to protect a metal blade. These oils are designed to cool ,lubricate prevent rust, eliminate misting in metal grinding and cutting at extremely high speeds. Most are a mineral oil base and now days biodegradable, costs vary but more than adequate versions are in the $30 per gal range with a mix ratio of 10:1 makes 10 gal @$3/ gal. I've been using this stuff for years and find it superior to all other oils I have used .

I have used 20 Gallons of this in my LS10 over the years. Yes I have cut many slabs with this saw. I have also used Gem Lube but found that it had a reaction to the cast aluminum parts in the saw.........................MrP

No reason to not leave it in the saw, water soluble is a misnomer it is actually an emulsion I have had it sitting for months and there is no separation just mix well before adding. Most all lapidary suppliers market some type but they tack 30-40-50% to the cost just to say for lapidary use, check the MSDS's they are all pretty much the same. I get the feeling that a lot of these suppliers etc. think we are all dummies (I guess I am) but I know you guy's aren't.
