That is more than cool. Love the artistry. What metal was used? I see some hints of copper or yellow/rose gold along with the silver. It's all copper. Started electroforming. Which I was very nervous about. This is actually my very 1st completed piece.

Excellent. A technique I am unfamiliar with. Is that why some parts look silver? If you can master this technique it will open lots of possibilities.

Just woke up again, had to take a nap from a not much sleep night. Did morning duties and crashed. Gonna go back to sleep and re-awake. Then figure a plan. Ideas ? jamesp Sorry I took a very long nap Woke up for some reason at 330am Have a party to go to later. Should be fun. As an introvert, I have to convince myself of that Look what I did in the wee hours of the morning Hurrah ! Your first electroplate ! You must have done it in the peace of dark. Was it easy ? Learning curve ? I don't recall an electroplater ever on this forum. Breaking new ground here. Introvert ? You sure come across as totally confident. Loosen up and have fun. Long weekend and plenty of extra time. You have the 4th and Labor Day weekend too. Plus you're in sunny California. Can't go wrong.

Introverts can be confident, sort of. I'll lessen up after a few tacos and beer

Love your first try at electroplate! I also prefer patinas on copper. Now I haven't tried this (yet), but I have heard that gun bluing is a very cool patina on copper.

It's not the same at all. You can think and retype, not in real time. Blown away by some of the electroplating. I say it's worth mastering for sure. Seems like anything that looks great draws blood in effort.

Nothing wrong with liking home MsAli. I never liked staying at home much, or in the house. Rough home life as a kid I suppose.

I must be weak for my kid life to have left lingering damages lol. what a wimp. I just laugh it off and move on, others had it a heck of a lot rougher no doubt. Moving away was H-E-A-V-E-N Hope you had a good time last night. Here is a photo. started the obsidian and lips to the left at 6PM yesterday in polish in Lot-O. The night was good to them. The lips on the right are what they looked like going into Lot-O at 6PM last night, quite dull but prepped well enough. When a defined reflection can be seen at a sharp viewing angle they are ready for the Lot-O, great trick for measuring polish level. This batch may be ready tonight to tomorrow for sure lest something goes real wrong. The green lips are from Thurs to Friday in kiln and ready for nip extra and shape on lap.

This is the steep angle mentioned. Note widow panes in reflection at sharp angle. To test for optically reflective surface you about need an electron microscope. Or you can do this brain dead simple test. If the window panes are not defined at this steep angle of reflection then the glass is not pre-polished enough to move to polish. It is sitting on a water bottle.

Nice. Lips are looking good. Had a random facebook feed showing glass guitar picks embedded on the side of an Old Fashioned glass. They were partially sticking outside and inside of the glass. Very cool looking. Something to consider. Oops, Old Fashioned Glass here is your basic cocktail glass.

Space frontier, opal, powdered opal, gold-platinum and silver. $1700 ouch

Awesome job!! I love the lips too This is a glass nipper and it flat out nips the excess perimeter clear glass controllably to reduce grinding removal. People that are cutting a single cab out of a slab can also use these nippers to chip away at excess. Works on agate slabs well. Note 60 grit lap rough grind marks on left lips. Tumbler will remove such large chips in coarse grit and still leave a radius shaped edge. I am getting ready to pack up a few lips and head to Decatur art shops with the lips for a funny reason.

Love the green lips! They're looking really good. Thanks Robin. It takes a particular arrangement during the blowing process for a vase to be able to make lips from. Not just the layers but the glass has to flow just right. If they ever sell I can buy vases that work for the application but yes they are expensive. If they will sell for $20 a piece it would be a nice little income and finance the fancy vase. I was just outside talking to two gay ladies that were buying one of my wife's puppies. They were quite frank about the lips (let's say not shy et al) and thought they would be in demand in their hood(Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta) lol. Decatur is having their arts festival this weekend, think it's good time to go do some marketing.
