I came back to some very shiny lips and obsidian. Barely been in the Lot-O 24 hours. Suppose to leave them in another 12 hours. Are you knowledgeable of obsidian ? Please ID them for me. Brown snowflake mahogany on right ? Beats me... I have no idea what these 2 are except the one on the left is broken obsidian. It hit the tile floor moments before the photo. There must be a broken quartz pea gravel in the load as I noticed a ziggy mark on one of the lips. Hoping it did not put ziggys on the whole lot of them. Obsidian Lips

Cannot wait to get them shined up I want to try some others, I believe one type is called peanut obsidian that has poppy type inclusions. The silver sheen has to be cut in the right direction to give a sheen.

I would call both of them Mahogany -- whether the one on the left has another name because of the pattern, I don't know. I've never encountered it before. Nice and shiny they are, too! Lips turned out really good (but I expect that from you now).

Too dark to appreciate for use in jewelry but interesting from a geological standpoint. An Ebay purchase. Seems to have bits of mahogany, plain black, sheen, snowflake, etc. End of Day obsidian ? The rest of the batch was 80 pairs of kissers to serve as focal point of Etsy shop.

Check out this heavy beast. From a known blower. 11 pounds and will attempt lips. Has been sitting in an import house for several years, owners decided to get rid of it. Tile saw and me have a long date.

Those wraps and sea glass jewelry are great. The vase should be interesting to work with.

It is unimaginable to have massive piles and exposures of it being an easterner. It would be a treasure hunt to sort thru it as it is found in nature. Are you sawing it with the sheen to get it to be reflective ?

This boy is huge and this is just one chunk sitting in their yard Wow and what a big chunk. I see this has swirls in it. I have a chunk but it is flat layers. So if it is swirly does that make it tricky to saw it to reflect a sheen ?

Maybe best I dont try Today he was cutting massive chunks of plasma agate That stuff is incredible

Those wraps and sea glass jewelry are great. The vase should be interesting to work with. I scored well yesterday on 2 machine blown pieces. Often times the machine blown vitrifies when melted or slumped. May have to straight tumble and skip the melt. Testing in kiln tonight. I bought the multi-colored shell at Home Goods department store for $12 and it weighs 6.5 pounds. It is pretty crazy. Fingers crossed it will melt. The red and orange one is heavy with red and orange layers and may make fine lips if it will not also vitrify at melt. Orange inside, white middle layer, red next, then coated with clear. The big blue and green vase is a China hand blown and of fine high flow glass, it may be the 6th vase from this company I processed and all have made lips easily. Melts like butter and kiln polishes perfect. They are distributed in California and here in Atlanta. Many sold here in Atlanta over the years and they often end up in local thrift shops. The importer here in Atlanta is slowly liquidating his stock because no one is buying glass much anymore. Green/blue being reduced, a coarser tile saw blade used for this. When cutting it to smaller melts a finer glass blade is used to avoid shattering and chipping. I have to hold the vase and feed it to the blade carefully so it does not grab the blade. It is held carefully where it won't cut if it gets snagged on the saw blade.
