The royal blue cabs are kicking my butt. Your wife's lips turned out great too, but I'm pretty sure she wouldn't appreciate the demented comment! Alien lips are awesome. Gotta come up with some more lip themes -- fish lips?

The color patterns are beginning to look like rocks, with inclusions. The lips are getting better and better. I like the backs, too.

Gotta come up with some more lip themes -- fish lips? The blue glass was a broken vase in the local blower's scraps Robin. Not much of it. There was only enough to make an 8" x 12" melt slab encasing them. There is 100's(1000's) of different vase parts in his scraps. Many are complex like this one, using metallic/reactive/crackle/etc frit. I have 100's of different pendants that I have encased his wide variety of shards and have him blow more stock. Once I have one shard encased in clear glass it serves as a color chip for having him blow another if needed. Globes at about 10 inches in diameter are easiest to blow and make about 120 pendants and he can encase them by simply adding a layer of clear glass on each side. Processing a pre-encased globe is quick and easy as it saves many steps at kiln and grinders and the quality is better because it is spec built bubble free and super clear encasement glass. These are his shards just out of the last tumbler batch, probably 40 out of the 90 batch are his(Matt Janke's) shards and everyone different and complicated frits. Maybe 1% of his scrap pile has been touched. Infinite supply of colors and patterns.

The color patterns are beginning to look like rocks, with inclusions. The lips are getting better and better. I like the backs, too. Detailed photos before and after, and a precision glass blade obtained this week for the tile saw changed everything with the lips. It is all about clean flat cuts. The lips are melted upside down. So I must flip them in their melt location to be able to compare them to the before melt photos. Comparison of before and after is the only way to improve. It takes more time on the saw and grinder to make the pre-melts than it does to grind a well shaped cab after melt. They have to be near perfect in dimension and mate up. Intentional changes and positioning on yesterday's melt taught me a bunch as they all melted as predicted be it good or bad. Being so many melts it answered about all of the mysteries. Once a repeatable system is developed a product or art piece can be reproduced reliably and quickly. I have always been jealous of a sketch artist that can make a photo grade sketch of anyone's face in 2 minutes. IMO that is just pure talent. In the case of these lips it is a mechanical process. No matter, if the outcome is desirable it is a win. This is the kiln melt with the lips flipped bottom side up for comparison to pre-melt, the green lips were a test melt:

Chicken lips? Lizard Lips? Lion Lips? Hippo Lips? Can't wait to attempt the lips of the creatures Dave. Maybe some sulfide teeth ? The book you sent has enlightened me about melting white sulfides in glass. IF, I can interpret a book from Dave , you know your brain operates on nitro. These lips have an air gap between them before melt just begging for some sulfide teeth to be placed... Pretty sure these are sulfides, super white and untouched by heat:

rockjunquieThis kiln has top heat and 2 shelves. The top shelf gets a good bit hotter with direct top heat causing more surface mixing. So 2 alien lips were placed on the top shelf and one on the bottom. Note the surface mixing of the bottom 2 lips sitting on the top shelf, the top lip was on the bottom shelf and did well:

I dont blame her for throwing stuff at you if you make those kind of comments😂 One day years ago I was 3 stories up attaching soffit trim on a barn and she snuck up with a deer rifle. Transgressions on my behalf had her rather flustered. Heard a pssst, I looked down and noticed her holding a strange object against her face with a large eye. After scrutinizing for about 2 seconds the strange object identified as a rifle with eye magnified by rifle scope. Damn near fell off the roof head first. Metallic taste in mouth. She laughed her tail off, "ha ha , got you !". And yes she did. Woman is a psycho. perfect Would you do that to your man Alison ? Speaking of wife, she did the millefiori's at the bottom of the photo. I tried to tell her she had the cover glass too thick. Sure nuff it melted and spread way out and deformed her millefiori's. Too avoid another life threatening incident I expressed (very slightly sarcastic) sorrow for her situation. Boiled her blood ha ha. The rifle was long ago locked up.

Strange, ground the backs flat and the Sci Fi got gone. Note bail placement. Yet to be tumbled: front: back ground off, Sci Fi reduced:

Sawing with water is a pleasure. Sawing soft stuff is a pleasure. Vases binding on saw blade not a pleasure, proper technique must be adhered to. Blade is a tile saw glass blade import from Advanta, fine diamond products from that company. Prepping green vase for alien lips early on, a totally thick vase:

I recently joined a Facebook glass fusion group. They were sorta blown away when they figured out I was using rogue vases, glass blower's scraps and tumble shaping/polishing. Fuse able glass is expensive. It is a shame that I am not sharing my tumble polishing technique with them in particular because it breaks open a whole new field in glass fusing. I posted the process of breaking down a Polish vase and prepping it for tumbling a couple of days ago. And some macros of finished vase pendants. Sorta went viral and did not surprise because of the advantages of being able to tumble polish and limitations of fuse polish-able glass.
Glass fusing is expensive hobby. I suppose I could set a limited amount of these people up in a 1 week course and build the machinery for them. They could produce keeping it secret to avoid adding competition. Guessing they would pay an exorbitant fee for such, them folks have the money.

Well I guess its dependant on the transgression. I probably would of pulled the trigger. (Kidding, I've learned it isn't worth it and I have no problem just walking away and leaving) Men always say women are psycho when they are in the wrong and then the woman gets upset. Tip for all men. Dont get her mad and then call her crazy when she blows Speaking of shooting, daughter is taking me to the range today. For some reason they wont allow me to put a picture of my ex as a target. 😂 I'm so happy you've sold some pieces. Throw a bonus in the package and make sure its wrapped pretty. Buyers (women) like that kind of thing

There goes your proprietary out the window. Most people can't keep a secret. They will share and then you'll be screwed. IF, and it's a big IF, you did decide to to something like that, you would need an iron clad attorney written non-disclosure for them to sign to make sure they didn't share before you even whispered one word to them.

Susanne an easy sell as she was a booty stop on the way down to my Florida man cave, so the rifle incident back when - just kidding, lol.(can feel wrath from across the country) Gift wrap real pretty eh MsAli ? Can I just give her an extra pendant ? Again, the poor abused wife's job. She does that stuff(me waiting with arms crossed) yes yes, it looks great honey. I am the one slaving and working my hands to the bone and she will end up getting all the credit. Happens every time lol. No sympathy ?? Sounds like your daughter is feeling a lot better and great news. You are correct hummingbirdstones, nothing stays a secret. The tumbling operation is so tricky I don't worry about many figuring it out and I don't give any hints. And lawyers are not allowed on any payroll around here, well not mine anyway. That's vanity. I get you though. Still a shame the glass folks don't tumble. Wife is a do do stirring machine. We have had some run ins and she is a force.
